User Manual – WP Auto Correction

This manual explains how to use the WP Auto Correction WordPress plugin. Goal: clean up typos and unclear wording in posts and pages as automatically as possible—with review prompts only when a decision is needed.

Note: Screenshots show a German WordPress admin. Button labels below include the English meaning in parentheses.

Quick start

  1. Activate the plugin.
  2. Optional: under Settings → Auto Correction, check language and automation (default: German, safe automation).
  3. Open a post → right sidebar Post → panel Auto Correction.
  4. Save the post first (important for a clean check).
  5. Click Text korrigieren (Correct text).
  6. Review open items → Übernehmen (Accept) / enter your own correction → Auswahl anwenden (Apply selection).

Correcting in the editor

Open the panel in the right sidebar (gear Settings), Post tab, section Auto Correction.

Auch Verständlichkeit prüfen (Also check clarity) Check clarity in addition to spelling
Text korrigieren (Correct text) Start the check
Text vorlesen / Rückfragen vorlesen (Read aloud) Browser speech (helpful for dyslexia)
Stopp (Stop) Stop reading

After a run you see a short summary, e.g. Automatisch korrigiert (auto-applied) and Rückfragen (reviews).

Handling review items

Unclear cases appear as Rückfragen (reviews). For each item:

  1. Read the message (e.g. “Possible typo found”).
  2. Pick a Vorschlag (suggestion) from the dropdown or type your own under Eigene Korrektur (custom correction).
  3. Übernehmen (Accept) – mark the change to apply.
    Ignorieren (Ignore) – skip this case.
  4. At the bottom, Auswahl anwenden (Apply selection) – writes all accepted corrections into the text.

Reviews with suggestion and custom correction

Important: Without Übernehmen (or typing in “Eigene Korrektur”), Apply does nothing. That prevents accidentally applying every open suggestion at once.

Highlights in the text

Found issues can be highlighted in yellow in the editor. Clicking a review jumps to that spot.

  • Highlights are for orientation only—they are not saved into the post permanently.
  • If you see no yellow marks: reopen the editor URL (cache) and run Text korrigieren again.

Recommended defaults

Typo automation Safe – only clear typos automatically
LanguageTool free (no key) is often enough
Clarity / semantics Heuristic, only trivial auto-fixes
Live hints optional while typing

Bulk: clean up older content

Path: Tools → Auto Correction Bulk

Bulk overview

  1. Select posts/pages (Alle / Keine, or individually).
  2. Optional: Auch Verständlichkeit prüfen (Also check clarity).
  3. Start with Nur prüfen (Dry-Run) – no saving, overview only.
  4. Then Ausgewählte korrigieren (Correct selected).
  5. Finish open reviews in each post’s editor afterwards.

Tips & FAQ

Save the post first
Otherwise the editor and the server may see different text.

Custom words / brand names
Under Settings → Eigenes Wörterbuch (custom dictionary), one word per line—these are not flagged as errors.

Wrong suggestion
Use Eigene Korrektur. Accepted spellings can be remembered for later.

JSON error / cannot save
Often permalinks / .htaccess. See the repo FAQ: docs/FAQ.md.

UI looks outdated after an update
Reopen the editor URL (not only F5). The plugin version appears in script query params (?ver=…).
