This is a massive one. v2.0.0 is a full architectural rebuild — the app is faster, smarter, and packed with brand-new features that didn't exist before.
🎨 Fresh New Look
mpvRex has a brand new icon. Cleaner, sharper, more modern — and it looks great on every launcher, every theme. This is what v2.0.0 feels like before you even open the app.
🆕 Brand New Features
- Dynamic Control Overflow: Too many buttons for your screen? mpvRex now automatically moves extra controls into the More sheet — so every single control is always reachable, no matter your setup.
- 3-Tab More Screen: The More screen is completely redesigned from scratch — organized into Controls, Interaction, and Settings tabs. No more digging through a mess.
- Slot-Machine Speed Animation: Press & hold to speed up? The speed indicator now flips digit-by-digit like a slot machine. The old speed UI is gone — this is the new standard.
- Speed Lock: While holding to speed up, swipe up to lock your playback speed in place. A persistent indicator stays on screen so you always know when it's active.
- Smart Folder Flattening: Folders with only one subfolder inside get automatically collapsed. No more pointless nesting clicks just to reach your files.
🎵 Audio Files in mpvRex!
mpvRex now shows audio files right in your file browser — browse and play them just like any video. Your movies, shows, and music, all in one place.
🐛 Fixed & Improved
- "NEW" Labels now work in Tree View: The NEW badge was already there for Folder View — now it finally works correctly in Tree View too, with real-time count updates as you watch.
- Tree View Stability: Native improvements under the hood make Tree View more stable than ever.
- Instant Seeking: Scrubbing through videos is now immediate with zero delay.
- Smooth Orientation Transitions: Rotating your device or switching orientation modes is buttery smooth, with full support for rotated videos.
- Silent Background Refresh: The app loads cached content instantly on launch — no more "Scanning…" flicker on every open.
- System Font Toggle: You can now switch to your system font from Appearance settings. (Thanks @farhan112k!)
- Fixed crashes when opening videos from Stremio, Jellyfin, or other external apps.
- Fixed hardware decoding crashes on certain devices (including Motorola Moto G series).
- Fixed playlist playback state saving race condition between items.
- Fixed duplicate items being unremovable from the playlist.
- Fixed player UI shrinking on exit.
- Fixed subtitle seek fallback — subtitle seek now only activates when an actual subtitle track is selected.
🛠️ Under the Hood
A complete architectural overhaul happened this release — media scanning, playlist management, subtitle logic, and UI components were all refactored into cleaner, more maintainable systems. You won't see it, but you'll feel it.
v2.0.0 has been the biggest update in mpvRex's history. More is coming. 🚀
