Linty v0.0.17
What's new
-
Linty now attempts to recover a dictation pill that remains on another macOS Space. If rejoining the current Space fails, it replaces the pill window once recording is idle.
-
Starting another dictation while the pill window is being replaced now restores the current recording indicator on the new window.
-
Updated the secure connection library with the latest security fixes.
-
This release improves pill recovery. The separately reported app hang remains under investigation.
Linty v0.0.16
What's new
- Your first dictation after Linty has been idle for a while is ready about twice as fast. Before, "Getting your text ready" could stay on screen for more than 20 seconds while the speech model loaded.
- Your dictionary words are still corrected before pasting during that first dictation. Linty's extra recognition of them resumes a few seconds later, once it has finished loading in the background.
Linty v0.0.15
What's new
- The recording pill now always appears where you're working: on your desktop, over full-screen apps and in split view. After a long session with sleep and full-screen apps, it could stop appearing anywhere even though dictation kept working. Linty now notices this and brings the pill back right away.
- If a dictation is running when you switch Spaces, the pill follows you.
- With more than one display, the pill opens on the display you're working on, in the same spot you placed it.
- The pill now stays above other floating windows, so they can't cover it.
Linty v0.0.14
What's new
- Linty uses less memory and battery while it sits in the menu bar. Background checks in the Linty window, such as the fn key conflict check and the usage chart's refresh, now pause while the window is hidden and catch up as soon as you open it.
- The Microphone Test waveform is now drawn the same efficient way as the recording overlay, so it no longer adds to Linty's memory while you test your microphone.
- No change to dictation, shortcuts or your settings.
Linty v0.0.13
What's new
- The recording overlay's waveform and moving logo strokes are now drawn on a canvas. This removes the last known cause of the overlay's memory growing while you dictate, so it should no longer need to refresh itself during long sessions.
- No change to dictation, shortcuts or your settings.
Linty v0.0.12
What's new
- Linty now checks for updates reliably while it lives in the menu bar. Earlier versions only completed that check, and the install of a required update, while the Linty window was open or right after your Mac woke, so an update could wait until you opened the window. If you are on 0.0.10 or 0.0.11 and this update has not appeared yet, open the Linty window once: Linty checks right away and installs the update when it is required, or offers it.
- No change to dictation, the recording overlay or your settings.
Linty v0.0.11
What's new
- This update is required: every copy of Linty installs it automatically when dictation is idle, so that the recording overlay stays fast for everyone. It completes the memory fix from the previous release: the overlay's memory now stays flat no matter how many dictations you make, instead of growing a little with each one, and Linty quietly restarts the overlay's helper process if it ever grows large.
- Hold to talk, quick taps and hands-free listening work exactly as before.
Linty v0.0.10
What's new
- The recording pill now appears the moment you press your trigger, even after Linty has been running for days. The overlay no longer grows in memory with every dictation, and it quietly refreshes itself between dictations as an extra safeguard, so quitting and reopening Linty is no longer needed to keep it responsive.
- Releasing the fn key (or your chosen modifier) now stops the microphone immediately, regardless of how busy the app is. Hold to talk, quick taps and hands-free listening with a double press work as before.
Linty v0.0.9
What's new
-
Dictation now uses Parakeet Ultra on compatible Apple silicon Macs, with the updated FluidAudio speech engine. The existing model stays usable while the improved speech support downloads. Whisper continues to support Intel Macs and the other dictation languages.
-
Linty now launches in the menu bar when you sign in to your Mac. This is enabled by default for new and existing installations; you can turn it off in Settings → General, and your choice stays saved across updates.
-
Find “Launch at login” directly through Search Linty, including searches for startup, autostart, or boot.
-
Right-click Linty’s menu bar icon to open the app. Left-click keeps the microphone, language, and transcription menu.
Linty v0.0.8
What's new
- Start another recording immediately while an earlier take is still processing. Both takes paste in the order you recorded them.
- The recording pill is more reliable when Linty is hidden or you switch between apps.
- Opening Linty from Spotlight or the Dock brings its window to the front, including after you close or minimize it.
