@peterzimon peterzimon released this 06 Mar 15:02

First stable release of brain-basic-midi2cv: a performance-focused MIDI-to-CV firmware for the Shmoergh Moduleur Brain.

Highlights

  • MIDI note-on/off to 1V/oct pitch CV + gate output.
  • Front-panel configuration for MIDI channel, CV routing, and secondary CV mode.
  • Secondary CV supports 4 modes, including Duophonic mode.
  • Real-time panic reset by holding both buttons for 2 seconds.

Features

  • MIDI channel selection (1-16) with binary LED feedback.
  • Pitch CV routing to output channel A or B.
  • Secondary CV mode Velocity (LED 4 on).
  • Secondary CV mode Modwheel (LED 5 on).
  • Secondary CV mode Unison (LED 4+5 on).
  • Secondary CV mode Duophonic (LED 6 on).
  • Secondary/CC output range configured to 0-5V.
  • Startup animation and runtime LED activity feedback.

MIDI/CV Engine Notes

  • Last-note-priority monophonic stack (up to 25 notes).
  • Duophonic mode splits the two newest held notes across the two CV channels.
  • Duo behavior latches the pair when going from 2 notes to 1 note until phrase restart.
  • 1V/oct mapping with MIDI note 24 (C1) = 0V.

Build and Targets

  • Build system: CMake + Pico SDK.
  • Firmware target: Raspberry Pi Pico (brain-basic-midi2cv-pico.uf2).
  • Firmware target: Raspberry Pi Pico 2 (brain-basic-midi2cv-pico-2.uf2).

Notes

  • Settings are initialized from current potentiometer positions at startup.
  • Live config screens are disabled while notes are actively playing.
