Chipflow 1.1.1 adds a guided route into VLSI and native flow customization for experienced users.

Start with a real design

brew install shreenxdhi/chipflow/chipflow
chipflow quickstart first-chip
chipflow guide

Quickstart checks prerequisites, creates a self-checking counter, and executes real RTL simulation. The browser's Learning mode explains seven stages, tracks progress across retries, and launches the next step. An interactive chipflow wizard configures your own RTL.

Customize the native flow

chipflow init custom-chip --expert
chipflow hooks
chipflow variables --search clock

Expert mode offers a complete YAML copy editor and searchable installed ORFS reference. Native Tcl hooks and policy scripts, shared helpers, parameters, flow variables, and additional library files are preserved for runs, retries, and backups. Project copies keep complete settings and resolved input paths.

Validation and support

84 automated tests, browser interactions, installed-wheel simulation/server checks, and clean-container CI validate the manager. Real Nangate45 expert counter and Sky130 DMA flows completed through GDSII; the counter executed the configured floorplan/CTS Tcl hooks and shared helper. The runtime dependency audit found no known vulnerabilities at release preparation. Checksums and a dependency SBOM are attached.

Supports the documented single-user Linux workflow with trusted inputs and compatible native EDA tools. Install EDA tools/platform data separately with guidance from chipflow setup. A generated GDS file does not certify foundry DRC/LVS or tapeout readiness. PyPI publication still awaits maintainer account configuration; use the Homebrew tap or the tagged source.

Chipflow 1.0.0

@shreenxdhi shreenxdhi released this 16 Oct 16:06
c334655

Chipflow 1.0.0 is the stable release for single-user local Linux workflows.

brew install shreenxdhi/chipflow/chipflow
chipflow setup
chipflow verify --target sim

Existing installations:

chipflow backup chipflow-history-before-upgrade.tar.gz
brew update
brew upgrade shreenxdhi/chipflow/chipflow

Workers now recover interrupted status durably, stop tool descendants when their worker disappears, validate expected physical outputs, and verify saved inputs/configuration before retries. Checksummed backup/restore preserves history across upgrades and relocates saved input paths. Browser logs have bounded memory and stable pause/resume; the terminal checks prerequisites and offers setup suggestions. Web requests are bounded and local responses carry browser security headers.

Validation includes 66 tests across Python 3.11–3.14 on Ubuntu 22.04/24.04, browser interaction, installed-wheel and clean-container tests, and fresh Nangate45 counter/Sky130 DMA flows through GDSII. Both layouts opened in KLayout and passed reported timing/router checks. RTL and functional gate simulations passed. All 25 prior history entries were backed up and restored independently. The reviewed runtime dependency audit found no known vulnerabilities; the dependency SBOM and archive checksums are attached.

Homebrew currently builds dependencies from source; the first install may take several minutes. EDA binaries and licensed platform data are installed separately. The supported scope, toolchain revisions, upgrades, recovery, and monitoring are documented in docs/OPERATIONS.md and docs/VALIDATION.md. Flow completion does not certify foundry DRC/LVS or tapeout readiness.

PyPI publication awaits maintainer trusted-publisher registration; pipx install chipflow is not yet an available installation route. The attached wheel/source distribution and Homebrew tap are available.

The Linux Homebrew release check passed a fresh source installation, installed-package tests including project initialization and backup/restore, and the 1.0.0 version check.

@shreenxdhi shreenxdhi released this 16 Oct 14:53

Initial beta release of Chipflow, a local Linux RTL-to-GDS workflow manager.

  • Terminal and browser dashboards share persistent history, logs, artifacts, and run control.
  • chipflow setup checks EDA prerequisites and suggests installation steps without executing them.
  • chipflow init creates a bundled working example; chipflow verify exercises native tools.
  • Physical jobs are serialized per workspace and remain cancellable while queued.
  • Includes input snapshots, tool provenance, metrics, comparisons, and saved-input retries.

Validation: 43 automated tests on Python 3.11–3.14, isolated wheel installation,
fresh Linux-container simulation/dashboard checks, and native RTL-to-GDS runs on
Nangate45 and Sky130. Full foundry physical signoff is outside the manager's scope.

Install from the attached wheel with pipx install ./chipflow-0.1.0-py3-none-any.whl,
or from GitHub using pipx install git+https://github.com/shreenxdhi/chipflow.git@v0.1.0.
Run chipflow setup after installation. PyPI publication requires trusted-publisher
registration; repository availability alone does not imply a PyPI listing.

The Linux Homebrew tap is available:

brew install shreenxdhi/chipflow/chipflow
chipflow setup

The formula passed a real source installation, brew test, missing-prerequisite
assessment, and installed web-dashboard checks in the Linuxbrew container.
The initial tap builds from source and may spend several minutes compiling native
dependencies. Tap CI independently repeats the public-source installation.
