v3.3.0 - Polished workspace and richer demo

Choose a tag to compare

@shrestha-bishal shrestha-bishal released this 08 Oct 01:13

This release makes Beforework easier to explore and more comfortable to use, while reorganising key parts of the application for maintainability.

Highlights

  • Explore the browser-based demo: Open a sample workspace directly, without connecting a folder first. The refreshed sample covers projects, multiple views, milestones, documents, related items, reminders, focus sessions, and more. Demo changes stay in that browser, and Reset demo restores the sample.
  • Review items in a side panel: Item details now slide in from the right, giving descriptions, fields, comments, and activity more room while keeping the project in view. Other modal dialogs retain their existing behaviour.
  • Clearer operation feedback: Startup has a dedicated loading state. Longer saves and workspace operations show a compact busy indicator, and Google Calendar sync displays its progress.
  • More capable scheduling: Recurrence handling and date/time picker controls are organised into dedicated modules, with continued support for recurring calendar entries.
  • CSV workflow improvements: CSV import and export functionality is separated into focused modules, with the import flow using reusable page templates.
  • Easier local development: The source loader runs the application scripts in manifest order without requiring a production build for everyday local development. Production still builds a bundled, minified site.

Verification: 318 tests pass, and the production build succeeds.

Choose a tag to compare

@shrestha-bishal shrestha-bishal released this 04 Oct 00:52

This release makes project fields more flexible and improves the out-of-the-box project setup. You can now manage field choices more fully, while updated templates provide a more useful starting point for common workflows.

Highlights
  • Manage choices from the field editor. Add, rename, hide, delete, and reorder choices for supported fields. Changes are staged and applied with the existing Save action.
  • Customise Priority. Keep the built-in High, Medium, and Low choices as a starting point, then adapt the options to your project.
  • Start projects with more relevant templates. The project-management template now opens in List view and includes a useful status flow, starter tags, and considered List/Table column ordering. Table and Calendar templates also include fields suited to their use.
  • Use optional fields and cleaner layouts. The Group field can be added when needed, and List/Table columns remain aligned when Tags is absent.
Improvements and fixes
  • Added field-level context actions and improved field editing and choice-management controls.
  • Improved item-detail refresh behaviour after changes.
  • Refined project action menus and item-field interfaces.
  • Kept hidden choices and existing assignments consistent across fields, views, storage, and CSV import/export.
  • Extracted project template definitions and builders into a dedicated module.
  • Expanded automated coverage for field choices, templates, views, CSV handling, and project actions.

v3.0.0 - Flexible Projects, Custom Fields & a More Modular Workspace

Choose a tag to compare

@shrestha-bishal shrestha-bishal released this 03 Oct 11:48

Beforework 3.0 brings a more flexible way to organise projects, alongside a major step toward a more maintainable app structure. Projects can now start clean and grow around the fields and views you choose, while existing workspace data is migrated to preserve established workflows.

What’s new

  • Projects start with fewer assumptions. Tasks belong to the project and can be organised into optional groups. New blank projects don’t have to start with predefined groups or tags.
  • Tags are now an optional custom field. Add Tags when a project needs them, then use tags with the existing pills, filters, bulk actions, and project views. Removing the field hides Tags without deleting the project’s saved tag data.
  • More project-specific fields. Location and Schedule controls can be added when needed. Group is available as a field for organising Board columns, and field types can define how many instances a project can have.
  • Custom fields are more extensible. Field types now have individual modules for their metadata and type-specific behaviour, including filtering, value handling, sorting, and export.
  • Improved workspace compatibility. Existing workspaces are upgraded through schema migrations. Existing project tags remain available, and legacy Location and Schedule data is carried forward when those controls are migrated.
  • Improved internal structure. Item workflows, workspace recovery, authentication-provider integration, and the project-view catalog have been separated into focused modules to make future changes easier to maintain.

Compatibility

Open an existing workspace in Beforework 3.0 to let the app migrate it automatically. The migration process creates a recovery backup before upgrading older workspace data. As with any major update, keeping a separate copy of important workspace files before opening them is recommended.

Validation

The production build succeeds. The automated test suite reports 224 passing tests and 2 known failures in the time-picker tests; those same two failures were also present at v2.7.0.
