v0.30.6: Control live transcription during recording

Choose a tag to compare

@silverstein silverstein released this 20 Oct 06:06

Minutes 0.30.6 lets you turn off live transcription during a recording while keeping the saved audio and final transcript. This gives you a way to avoid live-transcription inference when you only need the finished meeting notes.

What changed

Set this in your Minutes configuration file to disable the recording sidecar:

[live_transcript]
recording_sidecar = false

This applies to microphone recordings and call recordings, including dual-source and native call capture. When you stop, Minutes still transcribes the saved WAV using your configured transcription.model.

The desktop recording bar and CLI transcript readers show an explicit off state. Coach reports that live transcription is disabled rather than attaching and waiting for text that will not arrive. Standalone Live mode is unaffected. #1172

Defaults and compatibility

Live transcription during recording remains enabled by default. No configuration or stored-meeting migration is required. If you disable it, live text and consumers that need that text are unavailable during the recording; final processing remains available.

The default configuration path is ~/.config/minutes/config.toml on macOS and Linux, or %APPDATA%\minutes\config.toml on Windows. An explicit MINUTES_CONFIG_PATH or XDG_CONFIG_HOME can change the path. Add the setting to an existing [live_transcript] section if you already have one.

This release does not change transcription engines, speaker-recognition defaults, or automatic-update behavior. Windows desktop remains experimental and unsigned. No percentage CPU or battery-life improvement is claimed.

Thank you to @adriannoes for implementing the option across capture, live-text readers, desktop status, and final processing.

Install or update

After updating the desktop app, reopen Recall so its terminal uses the matching bundled CLI.

  • macOS desktop: download the DMG below, or run brew update followed by brew upgrade --cask silverstein/tap/minutes.
  • Command line: cargo install minutes-cli --version 0.30.6, or brew upgrade silverstein/tap/minutes for an existing Homebrew install.
  • MCP server: npx minutes-mcp@0.30.6 with the updated local Minutes engine, or install the updated desktop extension below.

Minutes remains free and open source. Audio processing runs locally. Content retrieved by a connected cloud assistant becomes context for that assistant under its settings.
