@simbasjungles simbasjungles released this 22 Oct 01:37

Free My TV 1.1: a big update for LG and Samsung, more TVs on Google TV, and a home screen that's nicer to use everywhere.

Install

  • Samsung (2017 and newer): in TizenBrew Installer, Install from GitHub → simbasjungles/free-my-tv. It takes FreeMyTV-tizen.wgt from this release.
  • LG (webOS 3 and newer): FreeMyTV-webos.ipk installs through LG's Developer Mode (python3 webos/install.py <TV's IP>, see the README).
  • Google TV and Android TV: build it from main for your city and your TMDB key (the README, or ask an AI assistant: "Install Free My TV (github.com/simbasjungles/free-my-tv) on my TV at 192.168.1.50").

LG and Samsung

  • Samsung: YouTube and Prime Video show their own logos, Samsung's system entries stay out of the list, and 2017 TVs (Tizen 3) get their logos, names and TV Settings. tizen/install.py installs straight from a computer, no Samsung tools needed.
  • LG: TVs that won't let apps list what's installed (webOS 6 and 11) show your apps again: the known ones right away, and every app with its icon once you allow it on the TV. Opening Free My TV again from its number key brings it to the front.
  • German and Russian on LG and Samsung too.

Home screen

  • Hold OK on a shelf app to move it, as on Apple TV.
  • 16:9 shelf tiles, so the apps' banners look right.
  • Navigation sounds can be turned off.
  • Picks in your TV's language, with the English title when there's none; Crunchyroll, Oneplay and JioHotstar picks; and with an optional free Watchmode key, a pick opens its own page in the app.
  • Prices in your currency's format, in dollars where Binance has no pairs for your currency, and from Binance.US in the US.

More TVs on Google TV and Android TV
Xiaomi, Vestel (F&U), KTC (NextStar), Sony BRAVIA, Skyworth (VEON), Philco, Multilaser, Formovie projectors and the TCL C825, each with its own list of what stays protected. On Vestel, KTC, Sony and Formovie, the remote's app buttons can open the app you pick.

Safer switches
Original brings everything back, keeps off what you had turned off yourself, and still remembers what Free My TV turned off after a reinstall.

The Free My TV home screen, now as an app on Samsung (Tizen, 2017 and newer) and LG (webOS 3 and newer) TVs: the glass shelf with your apps, the drawer with the inputs, the weather and the prices, day and night, and its own settings.

Samsung

  1. On the TV, open Apps and type 1 2 3 4 5 on the remote. Turn Developer mode on, type your computer's IP address in Host PC IP, and restart the TV.
  2. On your computer, open TizenBrew Installer and connect to the TV.
  3. Install from GitHub: simbasjungles/free-my-tv. On 2023 and newer TVs, it signs the app with your Samsung account.

LG

Install FreeMyTV-webos.ipk through LG's Developer Mode, or build your own with python3 webos/build.py and python3 webos/install.py <IP>.

These builds take your city from the TV's time zone. For your exact city and the trending picks, build your own with Claude Code: see the README. Google TV and Android TV: build it with Claude Code, as in the README.
