Playa Pal 0.8.0 — Your pod can find you
Your pod can find you now. 0.8 is the mesh release: pods, the
answering machine, voice notes, and the walkie — everything a camp needs
to stay found without a single bar of signal.
Pods
- One pod, one shared thing. Create a pod, hand out a 4-digit PIN or
a QR, and everyone who joins sees the same pod — its name travels the
mesh, so joining by code no longer strands you in an unnamed copy.
Scanning an invite always asks before joining, names the pod and
who sent it, and never writes anything on decline. - Position sharing that tells the truth. The switch reflects the
radio, not hope: Bluetooth off, permission lost, radio refused, or no
GPS fix yet — each states what your pod can actually see and the way
back. A phone standing still is visible within seconds (the fix
arrives immediately; no more waiting to walk five metres). And if the
app is killed while sharing, the pod card says so on next launch —
one flip resumes. - A reinstall no longer counts you twice. An identity that went
quiet folds into your live row with an honest note — nothing deleted,
and it reverses the moment the quiet phone speaks. Swapped cards are
never hidden behind the fold.
The answering machine
- Messages hop phone to phone over Bluetooth while sharing is on —
no Wi-Fi, no internet. Texts and voice notes keep for seven days and
reach podmates when someone's phone passes in range. A plugged-in
phone at camp with sharing left on is your base station. - It speaks both platforms. The mesh judges each phone by its own
radio rhythm — Android's chatty advertisements and iOS's slower
characteristic reads both count as alive.
The walkie
- Live push-to-talk over camp Wi-Fi, with a panel that diagnoses
instead of shrugging: on different networks it names your subnet and
the fix; alone it says a voice note keeps until someone's in range.
Live talk and voice notes get equal billing — walkies are great, and
async is often better.
