Release list
Numa 0.37.0
Numa 0.37.0, a raw developer for Linux.
- A package for your distribution: Fedora, openSUSE, Debian, Ubuntu and Arch. Add the repository once and Numa updates with the rest of the system; the lines for each are in the README.
Numa-0.37.0-x86_64.flatpak:flatpak install --user Numa-0.37.0-x86_64.flatpak. It needs Flatpak with Flathub added, because the GNOME 50 runtime is fetched from there the first time. It installs over any earlier version; close Numa first.Numa-0.37.0-x86_64.AppImage: one file for glibc 2.39 or newer. Make it executable and open it.
New
The photo info is a panel at the left of the editor: press I or the info button beside the photograph's name to fold it open or shut. Once open, it stays open until you shut it.
Tone mapping on Looks: next to the camera's own curve, AgX, which takes very bright colours to white as film does, so lamps, neon and sunsets keep their colour.
Numa 0.36.0

New
An import you can trust: Numa copies a card into your library, and to a second drive if you like, checks every file, keeps a receipt and says when the card is safe to format. With a camera on its cable, its name appears in the library's header bar: shoot tethered, each photograph straight into a library and onto the screen, or import from the camera, only the raws if you want. What comes in is analysed and read for search as it lands.
Search your photographs by what is in them, in English or Dutch, on this computer, and find the things Numa saw in the Filter menu. Moments shows a shoot by its moments, with the shoot as a tape under the loupe, Review at full size and an edit per moment. Also new: camera clocks that agree, As Shot (a look that follows the camera's own JPEG), a camera profile made from your own photographs, HEIF and HEIC files, Proof for Print, For a Book, Tonight, the client's picks back from a proofing gallery, How It Was Made, stars to click on a hovered photograph, Mist, a better Auto, crash reports, and Send Feedback in the main menu.
Numa 0.35.0
Numa 0.35.0, a raw developer for Linux.
- A package for your distribution: Fedora, openSUSE, Debian, Ubuntu and Arch. Add the repository once and Numa updates with the rest of the system; the lines for each are in the README.
Numa-0.35.0-x86_64.flatpak:flatpak install --user Numa-0.35.0-x86_64.flatpak. It needs Flatpak with Flathub added, because the GNOME 50 runtime is fetched from there the first time. It installs over any earlier version; close Numa first.Numa-0.35.0-x86_64.AppImage: one file for glibc 2.39 or newer. Make it executable and open it.
New
Numa on Linux follows one design: a single white button to finish, white for whatever you chose, chips for every small choice, and calmer overlays on the photograph. A slider changed with the keys or the wheel shows its value over the photograph, albums are stacks of their prints, and face retouching is in every export, including photographs exported from the grid without opening them.
Numa 0.33.0
Numa 0.33.0, a raw developer for Linux.
- A package for your distribution: Fedora, openSUSE, Debian, Ubuntu and Arch. Add the repository once and Numa updates with the rest of the system; the lines for each are in the README.
Numa-0.33.0-x86_64.flatpak:flatpak install --user Numa-0.33.0-x86_64.flatpak. It needs Flatpak with Flathub added, because the GNOME 50 runtime is fetched from there the first time. It installs over any earlier version; close Numa first.Numa-0.33.0-x86_64.AppImage: one file for glibc 2.39 or newer. Make it executable and open it.
New
The AI models download about a fifth smaller: they come packed and are unpacked once, to exactly the same files. Raws from the Sony FX2 open. Add-ons and About say which models are for non-commercial use only, and About links to Numa's source.
Numa 0.32.0
Numa 0.32.0, a raw developer for Linux, and the first release under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later.
- A package for your distribution: Fedora 44, openSUSE Tumbleweed, Debian Testing, Ubuntu 26.04 and Arch (also CachyOS and EndeavourOS). Add the repository once and Numa updates with the rest of the system. The lines for each are in the README.
Numa-0.32.0-x86_64.flatpak:
flatpak install --user Numa-0.32.0-x86_64.flatpak. It needs Flatpak with
Flathub added, because the GNOME 50 runtime is fetched from there the first
time. It installs over any earlier version; close Numa first.Numa-0.32.0-x86_64.AppImage: one file for glibc 2.39 or newer (Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 13, Fedora 40 and later). Make it executable and open it.
New since 0.28
- Open source. Numa for Linux is GPL-3.0-or-later now, and Numa's own camera profiles are part of it.
- Most edits render on the graphics card, including masks, point colour, grading, noise reduction and HDR. Light edits stay on the processor, where they cost less energy, and dragging a slider costs the processor next to nothing.
- Faster and lighter on the battery. Photographs open and switch much sooner: faster raw decoders, the editor developed at the size it is shown, previews kept beside the library, and 1:1 developing only what is on screen. On battery or in power-saver mode Numa does no work ahead.
- Large libraries. The grid and the filmstrip build only the cards on screen, so a library of tens of thousands of photographs opens in under a second and scrolls smoothly. Each library keeps its own filter.
- Masks. A mask's Temperature and Tint work on turned and cropped photographs. Clicks and edge refinement on the card give the same masks as on the processor, and the subject mask is found at full precision.
- The library follows its folders without rescanning every minute, and a spinner shows where Numa is busy. JPEG and JPEG XL export are quicker, Olympus thumbnails come from the camera, and two cameras' raws that could stop Numa now open.
Numa 0.28.0
Numa 0.28.0, a raw developer for Linux.
Numa-0.28.0-x86_64.flatpak:
flatpak install --user Numa-0.28.0-x86_64.flatpak. It needs Flatpak with
Flathub added, because the GNOME 50 runtime is fetched from there the first
time. It installs over any earlier version; close Numa first.
New
- A calmer editor. One bar at the top: crumbs, Undo, Redo, Before, Export
and the menu. The row of controls under it is gone; the photograph's sections
are at the top of the menu, each with its key. - Looks. Presets became Looks: the camera profile on top, then Presets and
LUTs. The picker's tooltip says where the profile comes from, and now follows
a profile picked by hand. - Automatic uses Numa's own profile where there is one (X-T5, X-T4, X-S10,
EOS R5, D850, A7R III). Preferences › General › Colour › Camera profile
chooses what Automatic means: Numa's own, RawTherapee or Adobe, or the
camera matrix. Photographs on Automatic from those cameras look different;
pick "RawTherapee or Adobe" to keep the old colour. Edited thumbnails are
rendered once more. - A profile is only used on the camera it was made for: one pasted onto
another body falls back to Automatic. - Histogram, Waveform or Parade from a right click on the graph.
- JPEG and HEIF files show their EXIF on the info page, and a photograph with
no camera data says so once instead of showing empty groups.
Numa 0.27.0
Numa 0.27.0, a raw developer for Linux.
Numa-0.27.0-x86_64.flatpak:
flatpak install --user Numa-0.27.0-x86_64.flatpak. It needs Flatpak with
Flathub added, because the GNOME 50 runtime is fetched from there the first
time. It installs over any earlier version; close Numa first.
New
- A new tone curve, read off the camera JPEGs of 349 bodies: lighter
shadows, a gentler rise above middle grey, and whites that reach white.
Against each camera's own JPEG it is nearer in tone on four bodies in five,
and nearer in colour too — the old curve took saturation out on the way.
Every photograph looks a little different, including ones already edited. - Camera profiles refitted on the new curve, and a new one for the
Fujifilm X-T5. Against the X-T5's own Provia it comes as close as
Capture One's Provia does. - Auto no longer pins a slider at its end when the target is out of reach.
Numa 0.26.2
Numa for Linux, as a Flatpak. Install with flatpak install --user Numa-0.26.2-x86_64.flatpak; the GNOME 50 runtime downloads the first time.
Or the AppImage: chmod +x Numa-0.26.2-x86_64.AppImage and run it.
0.26.2
- The camera profile picker in the Colour tab lists your camera's profiles again.
0.26.1
- Sliders stay smooth in large libraries: dragging one no longer makes the whole window lay itself out again on every step.
0.26.0
- Lens corrections now run on Numa's own code, reading the LensFun database, and find more lenses and cameras by the names in their files. The Colour tab has a camera profile picker again, with Numa's own profiles for six cameras.
- Twelve built-in looks, with a Strength slider once one is chosen. LUTs (.cube and .3dl) with an Amount. A waveform and RGB parade beside the histogram.
- A Canon multiple exposure no longer comes out magenta.
0.25.1
- A JPEG, HEIF or PNG opens looking exactly as it is: Numa no longer lays its raw contrast and sharpening over a finished picture, and a Display P3 or Adobe RGB photograph keeps its colours.
0.25.0
- A library on a drive that is not connected stays in the list and opens from what Numa remembers: the thumbnails it already made, each marked as away. Stars and flags given meanwhile go into the library when the drive is back.
- The grade has a colour wheel for each range, as on the iPad.
0.24.2
- On the iPhone and iPad, selecting by a tap asks for a quarter of the memory it did and answers faster, with the same selections.
0.24.1
- The mask models give their memory back after each use instead of keeping their highest mark, so an editor with masks holds about a gigabyte less.
0.24.0
- A night of testing: a folder renamed inside a library keeps its ratings and edits, undo and history steps are saved at once, and TIFF and WebP files open. Subject and Person no longer hold up the window, the mask bar fits a narrow window, the light scheme is readable, a quarter turn keeps the crop and its ratio, and AVIF exports carry the creator, copyright, rating and keywords.
0.23.0
- Subject is what the photograph is about, found by BiRefNet, and is a mask of its own rather than the person another model found. Person stays as it was. Heads, hats and feet are no longer cut through, and Refine edge keeps thin things.
- Clicking on a thing follows the photograph's edge instead of blocks, with far fewer stray spots and holes. The groups are cleaner: Mountains is new, and sky between branches is Sky.
0.22.0
- Subtract: a person, an animal, the sky or anything else the model finds can be cut back out of a mask — the gradient over the sky with the person on the horizon left as they were. A person or an animal is cut along the matting model's edge.
- The export's watermark is set by the same code on every platform. Where the processor runs AI sharpen through Core ML, it now runs at one tile size, which lets the whole model through.
0.21.0
- A mask can do everything the photograph can that belongs to a region: the colour mixer and black and white, its own point colours and colour grade, red, green and blue curves, a Color that washes the region in one hue, grain, and all of Detail.
- AI denoise and AI sharpen are buttons rather than switches. A point colour just picked is scrolled to and lit up, and its hue slider is in colour like the mixer's. Masks are kept on disk, so a photograph with a subject mask opens without running a model.
