Grim Dawn VR 0.3.2 (test build)
Test build. Install with GrimDawnVR-Setup-0.3.2.exe (or update from 0.3.0 / 0.3.1 when the launcher offers it).
Recording and streaming
- OBS and Steam recording now get what you see in the headset. Before, a capture tool that hooked into the game after the mod copied the frame before the headset view was drawn in, so recordings often showed a flat or HUD-only picture.
- The HUD is in 3D in the recording: the floating panel and the bar on your off hand show where they are in the headset, instead of laid flat over the picture like the normal game.
- If a recording still shows something other than the game window, use OBS Window Capture (method "Windows 10").
Notes
- If the bar isn't on your hand or a controller's buttons do nothing, check both controllers are switched on and tracked in SteamVR (an idle controller goes to standby).
- From 0.3.0 or older: turn Detail Objects off in the game's graphics options while in VR (it can make the GPU hang with VR's wide view).
Grim Dawn VR 0.3.1 (test build)
Test build of Grim Dawn VR. If you have 0.3.0, the launcher offers this update itself; otherwise run the setup over your install (settings stay).
New
- Hand HUD: the bottom bar (globes, skill bar, XP) sits on your off hand (the one without the laser); click it with the laser. Skill flyouts open to its left. While a menu is open the full HUD panel comes back. Adjust or turn off in F8 > Hand HUD.
Fixes
- Freezes: the game's "Detail Objects" made the graphics card hang with VR's wide view; they are now off in the VR settings. If you already had a VR settings file, turn Detail Objects off once in the game's graphics options while in VR.
- Waiting on SteamVR can no longer hang the game (a frame is skipped instead).
- Menus (Devotion, inventory attributes, skills) catch the laser reliably again.
- Camera turning is gentler.
Notes
- If the game still freezes, the mod writes a
freeze_*.dmpand notes in%LOCALAPPDATA%\gdvr\gdvr.log; please attach them to an Issue. - Set Steam Input to Disabled for the "Grim Dawn VR" entry in Steam.

Grim Dawn VR 0.3.0 (test build)
Test build of Grim Dawn VR. Install over 0.1.0 with the setup (your settings stay). From this version on, the launcher offers future updates itself.
New
- Desktop mirror: the game window on your monitor shows what you see in the headset (left eye, cropped, with the HUD). Record or stream it with OBS, Steam or ShadowPlay. F8 > Desktop mirror.
- Update check: when a newer release is out, the launcher asks before doing anything, downloads it from GitHub, checks its SHA-256 and updates in place.
- Contact shadows: soft shading where grass, rocks and characters meet the ground, stable in VR. F8 > World (on/off, strength, size, softness).
- Title screen: no black box, no sky over the ground; the character stands on the stage in the 3D scene, complete.
- Walking with the laser works far away and in every direction, including behind your character and under the HUD.
Fixes
- The game no longer crashes when you quit.
- Ground textures and effects (portals) are no longer missing.
- Quit/options menus and inventory catch the laser reliably.
Notes
- Set Steam Input to Disabled for the "Grim Dawn VR" entry in Steam.
- Windows may warn that the installer is from an unknown publisher (More info > Run anyway); Defender exclusions are explained in the README.

Grim Dawn VR 0.1.0 (first test build)
First public build of Grim Dawn VR, an unofficial true-stereo VR mod for Grim Dawn: the world in 3D around you, head tracking, the HUD on a floating panel, the VR controllers as a laser pointer with mouse and keyboard, 3D damage numbers and item names, and the Devotion constellations as a sky dome that lights up as you complete them.
This is an early test build: expect rough edges, and please report problems in Issues with %LOCALAPPDATA%\gdvr\gdvr.log and launcher.log attached.
Download
- GrimDawnVR-Setup-0.1.0.exe: installer (recommended). Installs per user, can add "Grim Dawn VR" to your Steam library as a VR game, and has an uninstaller.
- GrimDawnVR-0.1.0.zip: the same files without the installer.
You need
- Grim Dawn on Steam (64-bit, DirectX 11; expansions optional)
- SteamVR set as the OpenXR runtime, and a PC VR headset (developed on Valve Index)
Notes
- Normal Grim Dawn stays as it was: the mod only runs when started through "Grim Dawn VR", and the VR game settings are swapped in and out automatically.
- In Steam, set Steam Input to Disabled for the "Grim Dawn VR" entry.
- Windows Defender may flag the mod because it hooks into the game. The README explains which two folders to exclude (the installer can do it for you).
- Not affiliated with Crate Entertainment. Free for non-commercial use under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0.
