Bridgey v0.6.0-rc.2 — macOS panel sizing

One complete 0.6 feature candidate for end-to-end testing. This is a prerelease;
stable 0.5.0 remains the default download until device acceptance is complete.

Changes since rc.1

  • Constrain the macOS menu-bar panel to its content's ideal height when the
connection state changes, instead of accepting a stale taller window size.
  • Give the File transfers summary button an explicit horizontal layout.
  • Add three layout tests for oversized height proposals, repeated grow/shrink
    transitions, and showing/hiding transfer history.
  • Keep Android functionality unchanged; bump both clients to build 25.

The original system-menu glitch has not been reproduced in the isolated layout
test. Please confirm this fix on the affected Mac: quit the old Bridgey process,
install rc.2, and reopen the menu repeatedly while disconnecting/reconnecting
the phone, with transfer history present. There should be no tall empty area
above the panel. See the full acceptance checklist below.

Included 0.6 features

  • Control Music or Spotify on your Mac from Android: play/pause, previous/next,
seek and player volume, with bounded now-playing metadata and optional Music
artwork. Enable Media controls and choose the player in Mac Settings first.
  • Optional pause of that player when a forwarded phone call rings or becomes
active. Media stays paused after the call; no unexpected automatic resume.
  • Send copied HTTP(S) links in both directions and URLs from Android Share.
Open/Dismiss on the receiving device gives explicit control over navigation.
  • Ping either device without starting the Find Device ring.
  • See MacBook battery percentage and charging state on Android.
  • Add Bridgey clipboard to Android Quick Settings.
  • Configure Mac clipboard, call, link and Ping shortcuts, with conflict checks
    and an optional Shift modifier.

Safety and quality

  • Fix the High CodeQL finding in Android call-confirmation PendingIntent by
    targeting a private explicit activity.
  • New commands have feature gates, correlated acknowledgements, bounded
timeouts and disconnect cleanup; encrypted request sequences reject replay.
  • Add URL, media-command, artwork, sequence and component-permission tests.
  • Merge reviewed dependency updates: setup-java v6 and AGP 9.4.0.
  • Correct security documentation: current native clients use TCP with
application-layer AES-GCM, not the originally planned TLS/WebSocket transport.

Install and test

Install both clients from this release over the existing versions, quitting the
old Mac process first. Trust and settings should remain intact. Use the
complete acceptance checklist
for setup, new features, feature-off/reconnect cases, and the 0.5 regressions.

  • Bridgey-Android.apk: signed Android 8.0+ application.
  • Bridgey-macOS.dmg / Bridgey-macOS.zip: macOS 13+ application.
  • SHA256SUMS-*: download checksums.

Limitations

  • Both devices must be on a reachable local network. No cloud account or relay.
  • Media automation is off by default and needs macOS consent for the selected
running player. This is not universal Safari/Chrome or system media control.
Metadata normally refreshes within ten seconds. Music artwork depends on what
the player exposes; Spotify artwork is not fetched.
  • Quick Settings uses a short foreground clipboard-capture activity to respect
Android's privacy rules; it does not bypass background clipboard restrictions.
  • Call pause depends on forwarded call state and granted optional Phone access.
Multi-OEM call/notification validation remains pending; passing unit tests does
not certify every phone. Call audio, SMS history and contacts are not accessed.
  • macOS remains ad-hoc signed and not notarized; Gatekeeper may warn on first
launch. No paid Apple Developer credentials have been added.
  • Pre-1.0 software: this candidate has not yet completed physical-device acceptance
or an independent protocol security audit.

v0.5.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Sep 17:22

Bridgey v0.5.0

Bridgey 0.5 is the first complete notifications and communication milestone for
the local-first Android and macOS companion. It promotes the tested 0.5 alpha
series to a regular release and includes the final mobile and Android Share
fixes from alpha.12.

Highlights

  • Mirror Android notifications as native macOS notifications over the encrypted
    local connection.
  • Use exposed notification action buttons and inline replies from the Mac.
  • Synchronize notification dismissal, filter forwarding per Android app, and
review a private local notification history.
  • Start a validated cellular call from selected macOS text, the clipboard, the
Bridgey panel, or a browser tel: link.
  • See live incoming, outgoing, and active call state on macOS with explicit
Answer, Decline, and Hang Up controls when optional Phone access is enabled.
  • Share text, photos, and files through Android's Share menu without accumulating
    multiple Bridgey windows in Recents.
  • Transfer files in either direction with progress, speed, ETA, verification,
    per-transfer notifications, and synchronized cancellation.
  • Synchronize the clipboard, battery state, feature availability, and Find
    Device controls between trusted devices.

Reliability, privacy, and experience

  • Pair with a verification code and reconnect through TLS WebSockets with
public-key pinning; discovery metadata is always treated as untrusted.
  • Keep sensitive functionality opt-in with synchronized global and per-device
    feature controls.
  • Export bounded diagnostics without clipboard text, notification contents,
filenames, network addresses, or persistent identifiers.
  • Add regression coverage for pairing, protocol crypto, reconnects, malformed
messages, file cancellation, notification actions, call lifecycles, Android
    permissions, and Share task reuse.
  • Adopt a unified Bridgey B identity across Android, macOS, notifications, and
    the web.
  • Publish the project website, mobile-friendly documentation, security material,
release instructions, and the roadmap through 1.0 at
    bridgey.ai.

Upgrade and test focus

  • Install over an existing 0.5 alpha and confirm that device trust and settings
    remain intact.
  • Restart either client and verify automatic reconnect, then test clipboard and
    one file in each direction.
  • Share several photos to Bridgey consecutively and confirm Android Recents
    contains a single Bridgey window.
  • Test notification display, an action or inline reply, dismissal sync, and an
    application filter.
  • Test incoming and outgoing calls, Answer, Decline, Hang Up, and automatic call
    panel dismissal.
  • Test battery status and Find Device in both directions.

Downloads

  • Bridgey-Android.apk — signed Android 8.0+ application.
  • Bridgey-macOS.dmg — macOS 13+ disk image.
  • Bridgey-macOS.zip — alternative macOS archive.
  • SHA256SUMS-* — checksums for verifying downloads.

Known limitations

  • Bridgey currently requires both devices to be reachable on the same local
network; accounts and an optional relay are planned for later evaluation.
  • Call status and controls can vary between Android vendors. Direct controls
require explicit Android Phone permissions; confirmation mode remains
    available without that opt-in.
  • Bridgey does not read contacts, SMS history, or call logs.
  • The macOS build remains ad-hoc signed and is not notarized until Developer ID
credentials are configured, so macOS can show an unidentified-developer
    warning on first launch.
  • Bridgey remains pre-1.0 software; the protocol compatibility freeze and full
supported-device matrix are planned for 1.0.

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Sep 17:09

Bridgey v0.5.0-alpha.12

This patch preview fixes repeated Android Share launches and improves the
documentation experience on phones and tablets.

Changes since alpha.11

  • Reuse the existing Bridgey task when files, photos, or text are shared from
another Android application instead of accumulating multiple Bridgey windows
    in Recents.
  • Deliver every subsequent Share request to the active MainActivity so the
newest file or text still reaches the confirmation dialog when Bridgey is
already open or running in the background.
  • Explicitly reject Android document-task launch flags for Bridgey's main
activity and add a regression test for the required manifest configuration.
  • Replace the documentation grid with a stable single-column layout on phones
    and tablets.
  • Improve mobile documentation typography, spacing, cards, permission rows,
buttons, and wrapping of long filenames, code, and reference links.
  • Verify that the documentation has no horizontal overflow at a 390 px mobile
    viewport.

Test focus

  • Share several photos or files to Bridgey one after another and confirm that
Android Recents contains only one Bridgey window.
  • Repeat while Bridgey is foregrounded, backgrounded, and absent from Recents.
  • Confirm that every Share request opens the correct confirmation dialog and
transfers the selected item after approval.
  • Check the documentation on a narrow phone screen,
including Files, Permissions, Build from source, and the final download card.
  • Smoke-test reconnect, clipboard, regular file selection, notifications,
Find Device, battery status, and call controls.

Downloads

  • Bridgey-Android.apk — signed Android 8.0+ application.
  • Bridgey-macOS.dmg — macOS 13+ disk image.
  • Bridgey-macOS.zip — alternative macOS archive.
  • SHA256SUMS-* — checksums for verifying downloads.

Known limitations

  • Full call status and controls require explicit Android Phone permissions;
confirmation mode remains available without that opt-in.
  • Bridgey does not read contacts, SMS history, or call logs.
  • Both devices must be reachable on the same local network.
  • The macOS build remains ad-hoc signed and is not notarized until Developer ID
    credentials are configured.

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Aug 18:31

Bridgey v0.5.0-alpha.11

This Bridgey preview introduces a unified visual identity for Android, macOS,
and the web, and publishes the project's first public website and documentation.

Changes since alpha.10

  • Replaced the Android and macOS application icons with the new Bridgey B
mark in a shared navy, cyan, and blue visual style.
  • Added matching Android adaptive and monochrome icons so the mark remains
recognizable with themed launcher icons and in system notifications.
  • Added the Bridgey website and documentation at
bridgey.ai, deployed automatically with GitHub Pages.
  • Added search metadata, canonical URLs, Open Graph and Twitter cards,
structured data, robots.txt, and a sitemap for search-engine indexing.
  • Expanded the public roadmap from v0.6 through v1.0, including media controls,
remote input, presentation controls, Files 2.0, multiple devices, bounded
automation, experimental screen sharing, and the stable-release criteria.
  • Documented additional post-1.0 ideas that extend beyond KDE Connect while
    retaining Bridgey's local-first and permission-minimizing design.

Test focus

  • Confirm the new B icon on the Android launcher, Android notifications,
the macOS app, menu-bar notifications, and the mounted DMG.
  • Upgrade over alpha.10 and confirm that pairing and trusted-device settings
    are retained.
  • Smoke-test reconnect, clipboard sharing, file transfer, notification actions,
Find Device, battery status, and call controls in both directions.
  • Open the website and documentation on desktop and mobile browsers.

Downloads

  • Bridgey-Android.apk — signed Android 8.0+ application.
  • Bridgey-macOS.dmg — macOS 13+ disk image.
  • Bridgey-macOS.zip — alternative macOS archive.
  • SHA256SUMS-* — checksums for verifying downloads.

Known limitations

  • Full call status and controls require explicit Android Phone permissions;
confirmation mode remains available without that opt-in.
  • Bridgey does not read contacts, SMS history, or call logs.
  • Both devices must be reachable on the same local network.
  • The macOS build remains ad-hoc signed and is not notarized until Developer ID
    credentials are configured.
  • A newly configured custom domain can require DNS propagation and certificate
issuance before GitHub Pages can enforce HTTPS.

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Aug 17:00

Bridgey v0.5.0-alpha.9

This ninth Bridgey v0.5 preview fixes incoming-call classification on Samsung
devices across heads-up and full-screen call presentations.

Changes since alpha.8

  • Samsung incoming calls are now recognized by their system full-screen call
intent when the dialer incorrectly reports them as already ongoing.
  • Incoming calls remain classified correctly when they open full screen from
the home screen or after tapping a heads-up call notification over another app.
  • The normal ongoing-call state remains available after the incoming-call
    full-screen intent disappears.
  • Added privacy-safe diagnostic logging for call-state signals without recording
the caller number or notification contents.
  • Added regression coverage for Samsung's conflicting CallStyle state.

Downloads

  • Bridgey-Android.apk — signed Android 8.0+ application.
  • Bridgey-macOS.dmg — macOS 13+ disk image.
  • Bridgey-macOS.zip — alternative macOS archive.
  • SHA256SUMS-* — checksums for verifying downloads.

Known limitations

  • Call controls depend on the safe PendingIntent actions exposed by the
Android phone application; Bridgey does not request call-log access.
  • Direct calls require Android telephony hardware and explicit Phone permission.
  • Bridgey does not read contacts, SMS history, or call logs.
  • Both devices must be reachable on the same local network.
  • The macOS build remains ad-hoc signed and is not notarized until Developer ID
    credentials are configured.

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Aug 16:15

Bridgey v0.5.0-alpha.8

This eighth Bridgey v0.5 preview improves Samsung call-state handling and makes
browser phone links reliable during a cold Bridgey launch or reconnect.

Changes since alpha.7

  • Call state is derived from the actual Android CallStyle answer, decline,
and hang-up intents instead of trusting an inconsistent OEM call-type value.
  • Short terminal ongoing updates emitted by Samsung while a call is ending
are settled before forwarding, preventing a false Call in progress banner.
  • tel: URLs are now received by the early macOS application delegate, so a
phone number is retained when the browser launches Bridgey from a stopped state.
  • Browser and macOS Services call requests wait up to 30 seconds for the secure
Android connection and feature negotiation instead of failing during startup.
  • Pending call requests are bounded, expire safely, and are cleared when Bridgey
or the Calls feature is turned off.
  • Added regression coverage for Samsung call-state conflicts, terminal call
updates, cold-launch URL queuing, and reconnect dispatch readiness.

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Aug 18:54

Bridgey v0.5.0-alpha.10

This final Bridgey v0.5 preview completes reliable cellular call status and
controls between Android and macOS and adds a focused native call experience on
the Mac.

Changes since alpha.9

  • Android now uses the platform telephony state to distinguish ringing,
active/outgoing, and ended calls when an OEM dialer publishes ambiguous call
    notifications.
  • Added real Answer, Decline, and Hang Up controls through Android's protected
telecom APIs. The optional call-integration switch requests only
    CALL_PHONE, READ_PHONE_STATE, and ANSWER_PHONE_CALLS; Bridgey still does
not request contacts or call-log access.
  • Incoming calls show Answer on the left in green and Decline on the right in
red in a compact non-activating macOS panel. Active and outgoing calls show a
    full-width red Hang Up control.
  • The call panel stays above normal windows and across Spaces without taking
focus, sounds once for a new incoming call, can be hidden for the current
call, and disappears automatically when the call ends.
  • Suppressed late Samsung dialer updates after the phone returns to idle, which
previously could briefly recreate an incorrect incoming-call card.
  • Updated Gradle Wrapper to 9.7.1 and kotlinx-coroutines to 1.11.0 after clean
    Build, CodeQL, and dependency-review checks.
  • Expanded call-state, action-ordering, permission, and OEM regression tests and
updated the privacy and protocol documentation.

Test focus

  • Incoming call: Answer and Decline, transition to Call in progress, Hang Up,
    and automatic dismissal.
  • Outgoing call from clipboard, macOS Services, and a browser tel: link.
  • Notification buttons, inline reply, dismissal synchronization, application
    filters, and private local history.
  • Reconnect after restarting either client, followed by clipboard, file,
Find Device, and battery smoke tests.

Downloads

  • Bridgey-Android.apk — signed Android 8.0+ application.
  • Bridgey-macOS.dmg — macOS 13+ disk image.
  • Bridgey-macOS.zip — alternative macOS archive.
  • SHA256SUMS-* — checksums for verifying downloads.

Known limitations

  • Full call status and controls require explicit Android Phone permissions;
confirmation mode remains available without that opt-in.
  • Bridgey does not read contacts, SMS history, or call logs.
  • Both devices must be reachable on the same local network.
  • The macOS build remains ad-hoc signed and is not notarized until Developer ID

@github-actions github-actions released this 17 Aug 21:23

Bridgey v0.5.0-alpha.7

This seventh Bridgey v0.5 preview fixes mirrored incoming-call controls and
keeps the call state on macOS synchronized with Android.

Changes since alpha.6

  • Incoming Android calls now expose Answer and Decline on macOS even
when the phone app keeps the required CallStyle actions outside the regular
    notification action list.
  • Accepted calls transition to Call in progress with the appropriate
Hang Up action instead of retaining a stale Incoming call label.
  • Ending a call, disabling notification forwarding, disconnecting, or replacing
the active call now removes its stale macOS notification and menu-bar card.
  • Outbound call-request messages such as Android rejected the call request
are cleared when an actual call arrives and otherwise expire automatically.
  • Added Android and macOS regression coverage for required call actions and
    incoming-to-ongoing state changes.

Downloads

  • Bridgey-Android.apk — signed Android 8.0+ application.
  • Bridgey-macOS.dmg — macOS 13+ disk image.
  • Bridgey-macOS.zip — alternative macOS archive.
  • SHA256SUMS-* — checksums for verifying downloads.

Known limitations

  • Call controls depend on the safe PendingIntent actions exposed by the
Android phone application; Bridgey does not request call-log access.
  • Direct calls require Android telephony hardware and explicit Phone permission.
  • Bridgey does not read contacts, SMS history, or call logs.

@github-actions github-actions released this 17 Aug 20:35

Bridgey v0.5.0-alpha.6

This sixth Bridgey v0.5 preview makes browser phone-number links open Bridgey
and fixes inconsistent macOS application naming during installation.

Changes since alpha.5

  • macOS Settings now has Use Bridgey for phone links. Activating it makes
Bridgey the default handler for tel: URLs through the supported macOS API.
  • Clicking a phone number in Google, a browser, or another Mac application can
now show Open Bridgey? before the validated number is sent to Android.
  • Registration is explicit: installing Bridgey alone does not silently replace
    the user's current phone-link handler.
  • tel: input uses the same strict validation as clipboard and Services calls;
USSD commands, letters, extensions, malformed escapes, and oversized numbers
    are rejected.
  • macOS build, DMG, and ZIP contents are now consistently named Bridgey.app.
This prevents a new BridgeyMac.app from sitting beside an older
Bridgey.app and leaving the old build running.
  • Added regression coverage for ordinary, formatted, encoded, and malicious
    tel: links.

Downloads

  • Bridgey-Android.apk — signed Android 8.0+ application.
  • Bridgey-macOS.dmg — macOS 13+ disk image.
  • Bridgey-macOS.zip — alternative macOS archive.
  • SHA256SUMS-* — checksums for verifying downloads.

Known limitations

  • The browser controls the wording and placement of its external-application
    confirmation dialog.
