First release of CipherLab, a desktop app for learning classical cryptography.
Download
Download CipherLab.zip below (Windows 10/11, 64-bit). You don't need Python.
- Unzip the whole folder anywhere.
- Double-click
CipherLab.exe.
Keep the files together. The exe needs the other files in its folder.
Windows may show a warning the first time. The app isn't code-signed, so SmartScreen or your antivirus may say it is unrecognised. Click More info, then Run anyway.
What's in v1.0
- Lab: encrypt and decrypt with Caesar, Atbash, Vigenère, ROT13 and Reverse
- Learn: a lesson for each cipher with the formula and a worked example
- Custom ciphers: build your own by configuring Caesar, Vigenère or Substitution, or by writing your own Python
encryptanddecryptfunctions - Favourites, open and save text files, copy and clear buttons
- Your custom ciphers and favourites are saved automatically
Notes
- Custom code runs as real Python, so only run code you trust. Code that runs too long is stopped after 10 seconds.
- Your saved data is stored in
~/.cipherlab/save.json.
