Automatic code review for git commits using AI agents. Supports Claude Code, Codex, Copilot, and Gemini CLIs for code reviews.

Install

Make sure $GOPATH/bin is in your PATH. Add to your shell config (e.g., ~/.zshrc):

export PATH="$PATH:$(go env GOPATH)/bin"

Then restart your shell or run source ~/.zshrc.

Quick Start

cd your-repo
roborev init

This installs a post-commit hook. Every commit is now reviewed automatically.

Usage

roborev status       # Show queue and daemon status
roborev show         # Show review for HEAD
roborev show abc123  # Show review for specific commit
roborev address 42   # Mark review #42 as addressed
roborev tui          # Interactive terminal UI

Reviewing Commit Ranges

Review multiple commits at once:

roborev enqueue abc123 def456   # Review commits from abc123 to def456 (inclusive)

The range is inclusive of both endpoints. This is useful for reviewing a feature branch or a set of related commits together.

Review Guidelines

Use review_guidelines to provide project-specific context to the AI reviewer. These are included in every review prompt and can:

• Suppress irrelevant warnings (e.g., "no migrations needed yet")
• Enforce project conventions (e.g., "use tabs not spaces")
• Add domain-specific review criteria (e.g., "check for PII exposure")

Guidelines appear verbatim in the review prompt before the code diff. Use TOML's triple-quote syntax (""") for multi-line guidelines.

Large Diffs

If the review prompt exceeds 250KB (including the diff), roborev omits the diff and instead provides just the commit hash(es). The AI agent can then inspect the changes using its own tools (e.g., git show <sha>).

Architecture

roborev runs as a local daemon that processes review jobs in parallel.

The daemon starts automatically when needed and handles port conflicts by finding an available port.

Agents

roborev supports multiple AI review agents:

Automatic Fallback

roborev automatically detects which agents are installed. If your preferred agent isn't available, it falls back in this order:

codex → claude-code → gemini → copilot → opencode

If none are installed, the job fails with a helpful error message.

Setting the Default Agent

Per-repository - create .roborev.toml in the repo root:

agent = "gemini"

Global default - create or edit ~/.roborev/config.toml:

default_agent = "claude-code"

Per-command - use the --agent flag:

roborev enqueue HEAD --agent copilot

Selection Priority

1. --agent flag on enqueue command
2. Per-repo .roborev.toml
3. Global ~/.roborev/config.toml
4. Automatic detection (first available: codex → claude-code → gemini → copilot → opencode)
