v1.2.3 (2026-02-24)

Highlights

  • Added optional NumPy support at both build time and runtime.
  • Added explicit build profiles for optimized production builds vs debug builds.
  • Expanded CI coverage (Python 3.14-dev, Debian 13) and improved wheel build pipeline reliability.

What’s Changed

  • NumPy is now optional:
    • Build without NumPy via LIBG722_NO_NUMPY=1.
    • G722(sample_rate, bit_rate, use_numpy=None) now accepts use_numpy to force NumPy (True) or Python array('h') (False) decode output.
    • If built without NumPy, requesting use_numpy=True raises a runtime error.
  • New build mode control with LIBG722_BUILD_MODE:
    • production: optimized (-O2 / /O2)
    • debug: unoptimized with debug symbols (-g3 -O0)
    • auto (default): chooses mode based on git diff vs v{version} when in a git repo.
  • Packaging/build updates:
    • pyproject.toml no longer requires NumPy in build-system dependencies.
    • setup.py migrated to setuptools build hooks for optional NumPy headers.
  • CI/test improvements:
    • Added no-NumPy build/install/test path.
    • Added unit tests for constructor use_numpy behavior.
    • Added Python 3.14-dev to matrix.
    • Added debian:13-slim container target.
    • Enabled maximize_space for wheel build workflow.
