Week of July 6, 2026
Hey racers! Here's everything new this week.
Gameplay & Balance
- Karts handle more fluidly (sample feel). Steering now carves an arc instead of snapping between eight headings, your speed carries through smooth turns instead of being cut on every direction change, and letting go of the keys coasts to a smooth stop instead of stomping the brakes. Yanking a hard reverse still scrubs a little speed — a gentle nudge now, not the old hard reset. Top speed and each surface's grip are unchanged — it just eases in and out instead of feeling on/off. Why: a toggle-gated experiment for a softer, less rigid drive (bots keep the classic model).
- Bunker rounds breathe a little now. The lava ring holds off for a few seconds at the start so you can size up the arena, then closes in noticeably slower — less of a panicked scramble, more of a tightening squeeze.
Quality of Life
- Live skin-unlock ticker. Pull off a skill play — a kill, a fully-charged punch, a bumper bounce — and a little bar pops up bottom-left showing your lifetime progress toward the next skin that skill unlocks (e.g. "Heavy Hitter 6/20 → Gear"), plus how many you've notched this match. Hold the medal at match-end and it banks for real: the bar advances with a celebration, flashing the skin's name the moment you cross an unlock. (Signed-in players see the lifetime bar; guests just get the "+1" pop.)
Bug Fixes
- Rejoining a match keeps your name and photo. Dropping mid-match (a network blip, backgrounding the Discord app, or getting reclaimed for idling) no longer brings you back as a nameless default kart — your display name, Discord/Google photo, notches and team survive the rejoin, on every reconnect path.
- Why: the re-seat rebuilt a blank kart before your old one's identity could be copied over, the seat snapshot never carried the photo, and the only repair path could never fire mid-match. All three fixed, plus the lobby now re-applies your look if anything still slipped through.
- No more ghost karts after a reconnect. A player who dropped and rejoined used to leave a frozen duplicate of themselves standing on the map (one more per rejoin, following you between rooms). The roster now reconciles on re-entry.
- Discord Activity: connection recovery no longer signs you out. Every recovery path inside the Activity (connection-lost retries, "server restarting" waits, room-not-found bounces, the idle "tap to rejoin") now rebuilds in place instead of reloading the frame — reloading silently dropped your sign-in for the rest of the session.
- Avatar photos retry after a failed load. One flaky image fetch used to hide your photo for the whole session (kart, lobby and recap); it now retries a few times before giving up.
- Lightning rounds no longer set world records. A Lightning round speeds up the whole field, so a time set there isn't comparable to a normal run — it can still be your personal best, but it won't be crowned the map's fastest-ever anymore.
- The risen Bunker goal is always reachable. When you're the last one standing, the game now guarantees a walkable path through the lava to the goal that bursts open — no more being stranded on a safe patch with the win ringed off by fire.
Includes v0.49.5.
