v12.7.2 - Cockpit

A release about seeing what is going on. What is running and where, what a
conversation is costing, what a tool actually did or did not do, and what the
model wrote when it meant to call one.

Added

  • Autopilot opens on what is in flight. Goals, runs, tasks and scheduled
    jobs stand in one list, each as a single line saying what it is, which
    surface it is on, which model is answering, when it last moved, and the one
    thing you can do with it. Code sessions working in the background appear
    there too; no screen showed them before.

  • A Code session can carry a goal. /goal in the Code window arms the same
    ledger the chat uses, and a strip above the composer shows what the session is
    working towards, how far it has got, and whether it is running, waiting for
    you or on hold. It survives a restart, so a coding task can be followed over
    days rather than a sitting.

  • Sessions have addresses. A model can list your other conversations - title,
    surface, model, open goal - and leave an unread note in one of them. It starts
    nothing over there and spends nothing. An isolated agent can do neither, and
    the refusal sits in the tool itself rather than in whoever called it.

  • A long conversation offers to carry on somewhere fresh. When a turn gets
    expensive the chat says what it actually sent, how much of that was the
    history, and what a new session with a summary would start at. It only ever
    offers. Nothing is deleted, and nothing is spent without you saying so.

  • An available update stays visible until you deal with it. A pill in the
    window chrome, fed by both the updater and an announcement from us, instead of
    a toast you had to be looking at for five seconds. Hiding it is remembered
    until the next version, and it goes away by itself once the update is in.

  • WordPress can do what your site can do. Skales reached about a third of a
    WordPress site before. Now: find, read, change and delete posts, the media
    library, categories and tags, comment moderation, menus and widgets, colours
    and fonts, the logo, site settings and permalinks.

  • The featured image finally gets set. "Write a blog post and add a fitting
    image" used to put the picture in the body only, and the thumbnail your theme,
    your post list and every WhatsApp or LinkedIn preview shows stayed empty.

  • The phone reaches the cockpit. The session directory, everything in
    flight and how to stop it, a coding session's goals, the handover, and
    leaving a note in another session. It can also open a coding session's file
    tree and read a file out of it.

  • Something is said while the model is still thinking. A big model can sit
    silent for several seconds before it writes anything, and a pulsing dot in
    that window reads as broken. One short line now says what is about to happen,
    in your language, and disappears the moment the real answer starts. It is
    never stored and never sent back to a model on a later turn.
    Who writes that line follows where your conversation already goes: on Skales
    IQ it comes from Skales and says so; on your own key it comes from a small
    cheap model at the same provider; and if you run a local model it stays on
    your machine or does not happen at all. One switch in Settings turns it off
    everywhere.

  • A team run shows up in the list of what is going on. A team of agents
    working through a task was the loudest thing in the product that appeared on
    only one screen. It has a line now, with the stop button the other rows have.

  • Sub-agents can be given a role. A dispatched sub-agent inherits every tool
    in the catalogue and pays for the whole list on every turn. Eleven roles have
    existed for a while with no way to reach them; there is a setting for them
    now, and it still starts on the old behaviour.

  • The cockpit says when a hand-off is worth taking. The phone can see it
    too: how much of each turn is history being resent, and what a fresh session
    on a summary would save.

Fixed

  • Mute now means mute. Switching notifications off silenced everything
    except the messages Skales considered important, which is how two reminders
    arrived at ten to midnight with the switch on. Nothing goes out on any channel
    now, and nothing is swallowed either: what was held back waits on the
    Notifications page, and a line at the top says how many important ones there
    were.
  • One meeting, one reminder. Three parts of Skales reminded about calendar
    events without knowing about each other, so a single entry could ping you
    twice. Whichever gets there first now owns the reminder for that event that
    day, and tomorrow's occurrence of a recurring entry reminds again as before.
  • Friend Mode switched off also stops Skales taking the initiative. The
    proactive assistant had its own switch buried on the Notifications page, so
    turning the companion off left it running and it kept surfacing meetings and
    overdue tasks.
  • An approval request obeys the mute too. It went straight to Telegram and
    never asked, so it was the one ping a muted user still got.
  • Unchecking every notification channel now actually means silence. A
    last-resort system notification still went out, because it could not tell
    "the channel you picked is unreachable" from "you picked none". The first one
    still gets the fallback; the second one gets the Notifications page.
  • A tool call the model wrote as text no longer becomes the answer. In any of
    the shapes models write it in, including the ones that are not in English and
    the ones that look like a line of Python. A call whose name just missed a real
    tool is now corrected in the conversation instead of being dropped in silence,
    and the same correction reaches Telegram, WhatsApp and the CLI, not only the
    desktop window.
  • Personas report a failed tool as a failed tool. Inventing a plausible
    result was the most expensive thing any of them did.
  • A provider error says which provider, which status, and what the provider
    itself said
    - in every language. The detail used to be attached to the
    English sentence and then thrown away by the translation.
  • A refused page stops being reported as a page. fetch_web_page and
    extract_web_text lead with the HTTP status and say in words when what came
    back is a server's error page. A PDF, an image or an archive is refused by
    name instead of being run through the HTML strip and handed over as text.
  • Web search says whose problem a failure is. A rejected key is a rejected
    key, a spent quota is a quota, and a provider having a bad day is that. The
    SearXNG hint about JSON output only appears on the status that actually means
    it.
  • A file tool says which argument it is missing, and accepts the argument
    names models really send. A well-formed call carrying contents or
    file_text used to fail where a malformed one carrying the same key was
    repaired.
  • A write that wrote nothing leaves nothing behind. No folders, no backup
    file, and an existing file untouched.
  • A full disk reads as a full disk in every file tool, not as an errno line
    in five of them.
  • A signed-in ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini subscription is stored the way an API
    key is stored.
    The token that signs you in sat in the settings file as
    readable text next to keys that were encrypted; it is encrypted now, and an
    existing sign-in is converted the next time Skales starts.
  • A schedule that switches itself off says so. After three failed runs a
    schedule pauses itself, which was right - but it only wrote a log line, so a
    nightly job could simply stop happening and nobody found out.
  • The phone stops waiting for an answer that was never coming. Two of the
    requests it makes about a coding session could end without a reply at all, so
    the phone sat out its timeout and then blamed the computer instead of naming
    the reason.
  • Listing a folder no longer empties the context window. The listing is
    capped, says how many entries there are in total, and no longer holds up every
    other conversation while it counts.
  • A big image no longer breaks the automation. A generated picture used to
    travel through the model as one enormous block of text before it was uploaded;
    Skales reads the file itself now. That is where a scheduled overnight run used
    to stop.
  • SEO is read before it is overwritten. And when the site is set to
    discourage search engines, Skales says so instead of reporting SEO nobody will
    see.
  • A refusal names what is missing. If the connector hangs on an account with
    limited rights, Skales says which right is missing on which account. And when
    a design change would do nothing in the active theme, it says that instead of
    reporting success.
  • A signed-in ChatGPT subscription starts on the general flagship instead of
    the Codex coding model, and the account's own model catalogue is asked for
    rather than assumed.
  • Google says why it refused: a location it does not serve, a rejected key,
    an API that was never switched on, or an exhausted quota, instead of one
    blanket "check your settings" for all four. The same refusal from OpenAI and
    from a ChatGPT subscription reads the same way, in every language.
  • The chat model picker lists the active provider's models straight away
    instead of waiting for a search term, and an install with no provider set up
    is told that, rather than pointed at a search box with nothing behind it.
  • The CLI routes that manage MCP servers ask who is calling. Four of them
    did not: one handed out the stored server configuration including the linked
    server's keys, one deleted a definition, and two started and stopped the
    configured process, for anyone who could reach the port. The DevKit token is
    now compared the same careful way as the API token beside it.
  • A command that fails says how it failed. The exit status travels with the
    answer, so a search that found nothing reads as nothing found rather than as a
    broken command, and a program that is not installed says that instead of
    blaming the command. Output too large to read back is reported as a command
    that ran with its output cut, not as one that never happened.
  • A shell tool with nothing to run says which argument is missing instead of
    answering with an internal error, and the same goes for the browser: no
    address, no target to click, no key to press. A scroll direction the browser
    does not have is refused rather than quietly scrolling the other way.
  • A page that was not there stops being read as a page. When a site answers
    404, 403 or 503, the browser says so before the error page's own words are
    handed over, the same way fetch already does.
  • Background commands left running by a previous start are visible again.
    After a hard restart the list said nothing was running while last session's dev
    server still held its port.
  • Twenty translations had lost the value they were supposed to show - a count
    with no number, a countdown with no seconds. They are repaired, and a build
    check now catches the next one.
  • The profiles that ship inside Skales say the same thing as the public ones
    again.
    Eight model families, GigaChat among them, existed only in the
    library fetched over the network, which means exactly the machines that cannot
    reach it were the ones without them.
  • The GigaChat card offers the generation it can actually reach and no longer
    asks for a certificate that ships with Skales.
  • The release check stopped warning about two Windows manifests that were
    never finished and have now been removed.

Changed

  • The user guide is a guide again. It had a chapter system and no way to use
    it: the chapter headings in the sidebar were not links, and there was no
    search at all. The sidebar now switches chapters from anywhere, the search
    reaches every chapter at once, and each of the eleven chapters opens with a
    walkthrough you can follow on your own installation in about three minutes.
    Mobile and remote, which had no chapter, has one; so do the model readout, the
    profiles page and updates. What was in the guide and no longer true went out
    with it.
  • Update announcements reach every screen in the app, not just the dashboard.
