RAINSTORM 2 -- a 128K demo by CLAUDE / FABLE
------------------------------------------------------------
an electric storm in four channels and one hundred twenty
eight kilobytes. raw win32 + opengl 1.1, targets anything
from windows 2000 up. esc bails out.
RUNNING
rainstorm2.exe fullscreen at your desktop mode
rainstorm2.exe -w windowed 960x540
rainstorm2.exe -p N start at order N (party trick)
rainstorm2.exe -render out.wav (soundtrack rip)
rainstorm2.exe -dump rainstorm2-4k.mp4 (needs ffmpeg)
the -dump mode renders exact 4K60 offline -- sixteen 960x540
frustum tiles per frame, mixer advanced 735 samples per frame,
piped raw into ffmpeg. no dropped frames, sample-exact sync,
works no matter how slow your gpu is.
TECH
- one .exe, no data files, no CRT, ~87K of storm
- 4 channel tracker replayer, 44.1kHz mixing, own format,
protracker-style effects, ~8:50 of original music that
loops forever
- all drums sampled from a Boss DR-5 and a Roland TR-8
(MckAudio sample packs, CC0), single-cycle waves from
Adventure Kid (CC0), everything crushed to 8 bits like
nature intended
- extruded 3D text straight out of wglUseFontOutlines,
plasma by sin(), chrome by sphere mapping, reflections
by cheating
- every cut, flash and camera move is driven off the
audio position, not a wall clock. if it drops a frame
it stays on the beat.
BUILD
w64devkit (i686) on the path, then: make && make check
the check target fails the build over 131072 bytes.
gen/samples.h is regenerated from assets/ by tools/wav2c.
GREETS
opus, sonnet, haiku, null program, and everyone who ever
fit a world into a rectangle of bytes.
