Stencilbar 1.5.0

New: Skills

Stencilbar now manages agent Skills: folders with a SKILL.md file. Open the new Skills tab with Command-2.

• Keep Skills in their own collection, ~/.config/stencilbar/skills/. Settings can select another folder.
• Turn a Skill On or Off with one switch. On links it into each Destination, by default ~/.agents/skills and ~/.claude/skills. You can add or remove Destinations, and Stencilbar previews each change first.
• See the installation state of each Skill. A Skill shows Needs Attention when a Destination differs from your choice. Repair is explicit.
• Import Skills from a local folder or from a public GitHub repository or directory. Stencilbar copies the files and never runs them. A GitHub import records its URL and commit.
• Edit SKILL.md in the Markdown editor. Frontmatter shows as plain text.
• Delete a Skill. Stencilbar removes its links and moves the folder to Backups. Replaced items also go to Backups.
• After the Trial ends without Activation, you can still browse, search and read Skills. Changes need a License.

Improvements

• Compact popover tabs with hotkey hints. Notes is now the last tab.
• A calmer popover footer with clearer controls.

• Fix a freeze on macOS 26. Opening the popover could stop the app from responding and use full CPU.
• Improve popover responsiveness. Stencilbar now reads the Library and Notes in the background when they change on disk, and searches only when the search text or Prompts change.

New: Text expansion

• Give a Prompt an Abbreviation and type it in another app to expand it.
• Prompts without Placeholders expand in place. Prompts with Placeholders open Fill and Preview so you can supply values before pasting.
• Enable text expansion in Settings and grant macOS Accessibility permission. Expansion is off by default.
• See the highlighted Prompt's Abbreviation in search results.

New: Notes

Keep reference text alongside your Prompts, in its own Notes tab.

• Search Note titles and bodies, browse recently modified Notes, and open them in separate windows.
• Create, edit, rename, and delete Notes, with explicit Save and protection for unsaved work and changes made by other apps.
• Choose a Notes folder independently of your Prompt Library in Settings. Notes are plain Markdown files; switching folders never moves your files.
• Search and previews refresh when files change on disk, without replacing work in open editors.
• Use Command-1 and Command-2 to switch between Prompts and Notes, and Command-N to create a Note from the Notes tab.

Notes editing is available during the seven-day Trial or with an activated Stencilbar 1 License. Searching and reading Notes remain available after the Trial ends.

Editor improvements

• Markdown styling in Prompt and Note editors makes headings, emphasis, links, lists, and code easier to scan while keeping the source text editable.
• Fenced code blocks gain syntax colouring, and Prompt Placeholders have a distinct accent.
• Long editor bodies scroll correctly.
