Quill 0.2.0 makes dictation start, finish, and insert more quickly while reducing unnecessary UI work.
- Faster microphone startup: Quill prewarms the selected microphone after access is granted and whenever the microphone preference changes.
- Faster transcription completion: Completed Gemini turns now finish immediately, while the fallback wait for final transcript segments has been reduced.
- Lower-latency text insertion: Quill determines the appropriate insertion method while you are dictating, avoids unnecessary focus changes, and restores clipboard contents in the background.
- Smoother listening indicator: Audio-level updates are limited to approximately 30 frames per second, reducing main-thread work without affecting audio capture.
- Release-candidate support: Early testers can opt into the RC update channel without affecting users on stable releases.
Install or update
New users: Download Quill-v0.2.0-macOS.dmg, move Quill to Applications, then complete onboarding for Microphone and Accessibility access.
Existing users: Choose Quill → Check for Updates… from the menu bar, or use Check for Updates in the app.
Quill requires macOS 14 or later and a Gemini API key with access to the Live transcription model.
