What’s new

Quill 0.3.0 RC 1 improves automatic-language dictation with Google’s hybrid voice activity detection and makes session completion more reliable.

  • Hybrid voice activity detection: Automatic-language sessions now use Gemini’s server-side activity detection while preserving Quill’s push-to-talk controls.
  • Reliable end-of-audio signaling: Quill sends the hybrid audio-stream end signal in the correct outbound order when dictation stops.
  • Cleaner session completion: Empty or completed sessions return to idle without showing a spurious error or attempting text insertion.
  • Expanded regression coverage: New tests cover hybrid setup, outbound ordering, transcript completion, and empty turns.

Install

This is a prerelease for opted-in RC testers. Download Quill-v0.3.0-rc.1-macOS.dmg from the assets below once the release workflow finishes, or use Quill → Check for Updates… with the RC channel enabled.

Quill requires macOS 14 or later and a Gemini API key with access to the Live transcription model.
