SuiteCut 2.0 — Native CEF

@skyaara skyaara released this 26 Sep 01:29

SuiteCut 2.0 makes embedded Chromium through CEF the default recording and streaming backend. The root suitecut import now exposes native record, defineSuiteCut, launchBrowser, createBroadcast, and createNativePage.

  • Record native I420 frames at a default 1920×1080 and 60 FPS, with narration, captions, presentation actions, checkpoints, and rendering.
  • Enable recorded page audio with capture.audio: true or broadcast page audio with stream.audio: true. Audio is off by default.
  • Existing native beta imports remain compatible through suitecut/beta.
  • Existing Playwright flows use suitecut/playwright, suitecut/stable, or root record with backend: 'playwright'. The Playwright Test integration retains its backend.
  • Preserve CEF sample timestamps when audio callbacks are delayed by CPU pressure.
  • Resynchronize video and audio together when encoder backpressure evicts older raw frames.
  • Fetch libyuv by exact Git commit so changing archive metadata cannot break reproducible builds.
  • All eight audio packages are versioned 2.0.0 and accept SuiteCut 2.x.

Install

npm install suitecut@2.0.0
npx suitecut install

The attached tarballs provide the 2.0 release independently of the npm registry.
For a speech family, install its suitecut-audio-sherpa-core-2.0.0.tgz asset and the
matching family asset together. SuiteCut and all eight audio packages are published on npm at 2.0.0. Their registry checksums match the tested release assets.

Migration

Move native dimensions, device scale, and FPS into native. Native locators use strict main-document CSS selectors; role/text selectors, iframe and popup flows, and Playwright setup callbacks belong on the explicit Playwright backend. Import Playwright recording types from suitecut/playwright. Replace legacy string audio modes with booleans.

Native setup and platforms

The npm tarball includes CEF browser source and pinned build manifests. It does not include a compiled or signed CEF browser. Build the complete native browser bundle and set SUITECUT_NATIVE_EXECUTABLE, or pass native.executablePath. A missing executable fails explicitly.

macOS Apple Silicon is the verified native target. Linux native support is unverified; Windows native packaging is not implemented. The explicit Playwright backend remains available on its supported platforms.

Validation

290 unit tests, six website tests, package-consumer checks, native clock/pixel tests, and real CEF capture/recording/streaming checks passed. The macOS ARM64 native CI run passed, including source replacement, RTMP reconnect, page audio, and installed-package checks. Explicit Playwright streaming and tab-audio compatibility checks also passed.

Known setup issue outside the verified native target

The existing pinned FFmpeg download URLs for Linux and Windows currently return HTTP 404, so suitecut install and those CI installation steps fail on these platforms. For the explicit Playwright backend, install FFmpeg and FFprobe manually and put both on PATH. macOS media installation and the native CEF CI checks passed.
