AI/LLM policy

Hi! I'm interested in using Nebula in our organization and in personal projects, I'd like to know the project's stance on recieving AI generated or assisted contributions in and around Nebula. I'm mainly worried about the ethical problems, code quality and licensing issues using AI causes. Thanks.

Hello Tasia - thanks for your interest in Nebula. As of current, the Nebula project has no specific policies around AI/LLM usage.

Code quality - especially as it relates to the security and availability of the Nebula protocol and its nodes - is very important to us. As a result, all code goes through a rigorous review process where at least one - but typically many - Nebula core maintainers carefully review and discuss any code changes prior to merging. To me, there is still licensing concerns around AI-generated code that make me hesitant to use anything that is even in part AI-generated/assisted.

So far, US courts seem to have upheld the human authorship requirement, which to me sounds a lot like AI-generated code might not be as easy to copyright and license. I am, of course, no lawyer but I do not want to run the risk for my projects.

I'm actually not only worried about copyright laws or code quality, but about many, many, many other reasons, mainly that by using AI we support slave labor, whether we admit that or not. I think it's worth reconsidering the ethics of our work (including how we work) and how it affects others.
