v1.1.1: Update notice, weather outages and a green bin

Choose a tag to compare

@slcr slcr released this 21 Oct 18:42

Fixes for updating and for weather outages, and a green bin.

Updating

  • Frame now tells you when the browser runs an old frame.js. After an update, the templates can be newer than the frame.js the browser still has: install.sh didn't run after git pull, or the browser kept the old file under the same ?v=. Until now that showed up as ButtonCardJSTemplateError on the clock, weather and countdown. Now a notice at the top says what to do, and the runtime check on the Setup page fails with the same hint.
  • The browser console shows the runtime version: FRAME starter runtime 2 loaded.

Weather

  • The forecast stays when the weather integration is down. Open-Meteo times out now and then, and the entity is unavailable for a while. Frame keeps the last forecast it got (up to 12 hours, also across reloads) and asks again every minute until there's a new one.
  • Meanwhile the weather card and the weather window show the current temperature and condition from the forecast instead of "Unavailable". The screensaver hides its weather line instead of showing "NaN°".

Rubbish

  • A green bin picture for garden waste (www/frame/bins/green.webp), used by the garden entry. Thanks @shivaagarwal1 (#2).

Upgrading

Run ./install.sh again (plus your modules, e.g. ./install.sh rubbish screensaver), raise ?v= of the frame.js resource and reload. Nothing to change in your own files.

v1.1.0: Weather, timer, scenes and health

Choose a tag to compare

@slcr slcr released this 21 Oct 16:54

The weather, timer and health windows from my own wall, now in the starter. Every screenshot in the README uses demo data.

Weather

  • Two painted kids next to the clock, dressed for the day's weather: winter coat, light jacket, T-shirt, an umbrella when it rains, sunhats when the UV is high, scarves blowing when it's windy.
  • Tap the weather for the whole day over a sky picture that matches it (sunny, rainy, foggy, thunderstorm, and night versions): this afternoon, this evening, overnight, the next 24 hours to swipe through, the next days, sunrise, wind, gusts and UV.
  • Works with any weather integration that has an hourly forecast.

Home

  • Countdown (frame_countdown) to the next birthday, Christmas, Easter or school holidays, with little painted pictures. Tap it for the next ones.
  • Clock menu: tap the small clock in the rail for the pages you rarely need (menu_pages, Energy by default) and Settings, so the rail stays clean.
  • Ask button (ask:): opens Assist in Frame style, big enough to read from across the room. It can read the answer out on a speaker and keeps the chat for 24 hours.

Lights

  • Room window: tap a light tile with area: and every lamp in the room shows up as its own row. Tap, drag to dim, and tap a lamp's icon for its colours: white levels and a colour palette.
  • Scenes (optional): white light, morning, evening and calm scenes as pictures, plus dynamic ones (Halloween, winter holidays, party, neon) where the colours slowly wander between the lamps. Every tap shuffles the colours. The pictures are downloaded by scenes.py, not shipped.

Kitchen timer (optional)

  • optional/timer: tap the big clock, drag the dial or tap a preset like Pasta, Tea or Soft egg.
  • It runs in Home Assistant, not the browser, so it rings even if the tablet sleeps, on your speakers and on every tablet showing Frame.
  • While it runs, a small floating bar shows the time left; drag it anywhere.

Health (optional)

  • optional/health: tap a person for their health window: activity rings like the Apple Watch, steps, weight against a goal, resting heart rate, heart rate and HRV, all with 30 days of history.
  • Last night's sleep with the stages (awake, REM, core, deep) drawn like the Health app, plus the last 30 nights.
  • It only opens on a tap (visitors see the wall too) and closes by itself after a minute.
  • The data comes from Apple Health via the iPhone app Health Auto Export; the README walks through the setup.

Everything works on phones too.

Upgrading

Run ./install.sh (plus any new modules, e.g. ./install.sh timer health) and bump ?v= of the frame.js resource.

  • Light tiles with area: now open the room window on tap instead of switching the room on or off. Dragging still dims the whole room.
  • Energy moves into the clock menu when it's installed. Set menu_pages: [] in templates/frame.yaml to keep it in the rail.
  • The clothing hint now follows the feels-like temperature. coat_below, jacket_below and sweater_below on frame_weather are gone; use wear: in the household settings instead.
  • The timer, scenes and health modules come with a Home Assistant package, so packages: !include_dir_named packages has to be in configuration.yaml. Each module's README has the details.
