Model picker

• The model pill opens the two-row Model and Effort menu again. Effort is one click away.
• Model opens the catalog beside the menu. Each service header reads like Claude (default account) › and opens that service's accounts with their plans and usage. Latest benchmarks stays at the foot of the catalog.
• Switching to an account that doesn't offer the current model now works: the picker moves to that account's top model instead of refusing.
• Every panel now stays inside the conversation pane, so the sidebar no longer cuts off the account panel.
• The menu and model list are about 20% narrower.

Windows

• Windows builds are always signed, and the release checks that the Happy Agent it installs carries a valid timestamped signature.

Happy Agent updates

• Fixes Happy Agent updates failing with "The downloaded Happy Agent versions could not be recorded." on machines that had downloaded more than 100 versions.
• Happy now removes old Happy Agent versions automatically. It keeps the version you run, the one before it, the version the agent is running right now, a downloaded update waiting to be installed, and any local development builds. Machines that already piled up old versions are cleaned up the next time Happy connects to its agent, which can free many gigabytes.
• Cleaning up never blocks an update. A version that can't be removed yet, such as a running agent on Windows, is left in place and removed later.
• Happy Agent versions are now ordered by version number, so 0.4.8 comes before 0.4.78.

Model picker

• The composer's model picker is one flat menu, with models grouped by service and each provider shown as an account of that service.
• Effort and account are text buttons on the model row. A row click picks the model at its remembered effort; arrow keys or horizontal scroll step effort and account in place.
• An account panel opens beside the menu with each account's plan, or a dash when the service reports none, and its live 5-hour and weekly usage. Usage appears as soon as the menu opens.
• Model selections stay exactly as chosen when the Happy Agent's model catalog changes.

Connection

• A lost Happy Agent connection is now a quiet status line in the sidebar footer, instead of a band across the top that pushed the whole window down.
• When the Happy Agent restarts, Happy follows its new version and model catalog without an app restart. A replacement Happy Agent must pass the same compatibility check as at startup.
• Repeated refetches of an agent are coalesced, so a stalled connection no longer piles up requests.
• Happy reuses your existing provider sign-ins even when the provider's CLI is not on your PATH.

• Download an individual file from its file preview tab.

Development

• The Vite development server keeps Chromium's normal connection limit, which fixes a blank window on a cold pnpm dev start.

Happy Desktop 0.0.88

• Windows onboarding: Claude Code, Codex, Grok, and Help installation links open in the system browser from both local setup and connected Happy Agent setup.
• Subscription setup: Happy detects signed-in CLIs automatically, handles temporary authentication and rate-limit failures, and keeps Continue available as soon as a usable subscription is found.
• Updates: Preview updates are opt-in under Settings → General → Updates. Both Happy and Happy Agent default to stable updates, including in Nightly.
• Chat responsiveness: Isolated local Agent transport and packaged utility-process files keep large responses from blocking the desktop process. Message and approval submissions now provide prompt, stable feedback.
• Packaging: Both macOS updater manifests are included, and release verification checks the packaged module graph before signing. Demo recording integration now supports the mobile gym; App Store screenshot tooling lives with the Happy mobile project.

This production release includes signed Windows x64 installers, Linux AppImages, and signed, notarized macOS builds.

Nightly startup packaging hotfix

• Include the renderer utility-process entry and shared Vite chunks in Nightly/local-web macOS and Windows packages.
• Verify the packaged ASAR module graph before signing and publishing, preventing another build with missing runtime imports.
• Retain the isolated local chat transport and latency diagnostics introduced in preview.3.

This replaces preview.3, which could fail at startup because a generated JavaScript chunk was omitted from the app bundle.

Faster, isolated local chat transport

• Move renderer-facing Happy Agent HTTP streaming into an isolated Electron utility process so large chat histories cannot block the desktop main event loop.
• Preserve strict main-frame, origin, proxy-authentication, native-route, and terminal security boundaries.
• Fail closed and rotate transport credentials when the utility process restarts, synchronizing daemon replacements before requests resume.
• Add path-free slow-request, event-loop, and authorization-gate diagnostics for investigating future latency tails.
• Preserve streaming backpressure and cancellation for large transcript responses.

Preview validation includes transport lifecycle, security, crash recovery, streaming, typecheck, lint, formatting, process-boundary checks, and production build coverage. A standalone real-Electron utility-process smoke launch could not run in the restricted development sandbox; signed preview installation is the remaining end-to-end validation.

Preview updates are now opt-in

• Desktop and Happy Agent updates default to stable releases in every build, including Nightly. Enable Settings → General → Updates → Preview updates to include preview releases.
• The preference is saved on this machine and takes effect without restarting. Disabling it removes preview offers and prevents pending native previews from installing; installed versions are not downgraded.
• Native updates preserve the installed app flavor. This preview provides signed, notarized macOS downloads and architecture-aware updater manifests for both Happy and Happy Nightly, on Apple silicon and Intel.

Development tooling

• Demo recording can coordinate with the mobile gym recording workflow.
• App Store screenshot tooling was introduced, then moved to the Happy mobile repository so that project owns its screenshot pipeline.

This native preview does not deploy the hosted Nightly renderer or publish a Happy Agent binary. The existing restart-screen layout issue is not fixed in this release.

Onboarding fixes

• Stop working Claude subscriptions from appearing signed out when the account-usage endpoint is rate limited. Setup now proves that a CLI can answer with one small inference request and retains that success while local credentials remain available.
• Keep checking for local CLI sign-ins every two seconds without repeatedly issuing inference requests. Temporary check failures show a retrying message instead of asking you to sign in again.
• Keep Continue visible and disabled until the first usable subscription is detected. Other providers can finish checking in the background; setup advances only when you press Continue.
• Open CLI installation instructions in your external browser, display their official URLs, and clarify that Happy requires a signed-in coding CLI rather than just an installed desktop app.

The hosted Nightly renderer also picks up the intervening onboarding refinements since its previous preview: Get help opens above and to the left without shifting the page, support links open externally, the current progress step uses a full-width intermediate color, and the redundant subscription heading and refresh spinner are removed.

Verified against a macOS VM where Claude inference succeeded while its usage-based authentication check failed.
