Compressed trash, and a first look at devklean's intelligence layer: knowing not just what to delete, but why.
Added
--compressflag/config option: compresses artifacts into an archive, verifies it's
intact, then trashes the archive instead of the raw directory — meaningfully smaller
disk footprint for things likenode_modules. Default format is gzip (no new
required dependency); optional zstd viapip install devklean[zstd].devklean explain <path>: looks up a path against a signature registry of known
build/dependency artifacts and explains what generated it, how to regenerate it,
and the risk involved in removing it.devklean analyze: scans your workspace, reports reclaimable space per artifact,
and flags simple structural issues (e.g. conflicting lockfiles in the same project).
Fixed
- Hardlink-heavy directories (npm/pnpm-style installs) could fail
--compress
verification due to a file-count mismatch — fixed with hardlink-aware counting. - Non-
OSErrorfailures during compression could previously escape and abort an
entireclean --compressbatch instead of failing just the one item. - A configured default path wasn't being applied to
analyze/explain. - Clearer error message when an original directory can't be removed after its
compressed archive was already sent to trash.
Install
pipx install --upgrade devklean
