NullVPN

NullVPN 1.3.0

NullVPN comes to the Mac and the iPhone, updates install from inside the app, and routing databases get their own page. On Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and Linux.

✨ Highlights

  • 🍎 NullVPN for macOS. One app for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 12+), with System Proxy and TUN modes.
  • 📱 NullVPN for iPhone and iPad (iOS 15+), with a Control Center switch.
  • ⬇️ In-app updates. NullVPN downloads and installs the new version itself: it asks first, shows the version and the size, and shows a progress bar while it downloads.
  • 🗺️ Geo files page (Settings → Rules). Choose where geoip.dat and geosite.dat come from, and update them by hand or on a schedule.

🆕 New

  • NullVPN for macOS. One universal app for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, macOS 12 or newer. It has everything the other desktops have: System Proxy and TUN modes, Aether, subscriptions, and routing and DNS settings.
    • TUN mode asks for your administrator password once, to install a small helper. After that, connecting asks for nothing. The helper creates the tunnel, sends DNS through it, and puts everything back when you disconnect, even if NullVPN is force-quit.
    • When you switch networks (Wi-Fi to Ethernet, or to another Wi-Fi), it reconnects on its own.
    • nullvpn:// links open in the running app, and Launch at login works.
  • NullVPN for iPhone and iPad, iOS 15 or newer. It comes as an unsigned .ipa that you sign yourself; see the install notes.
    • Works as on Android: TUN, System Proxy and Proxy-only modes; both TUN engines (Xray and Zeptun); subscriptions, routing, DNS, server tests and nullvpn:// links.
    • Aether: WARP over MASQUE or WireGuard, Tor, and exit locations. On iPhone, Aether sets up its WARP identity by itself on the first connect.
    • Not on iOS: Psiphon and Tor bridges. Both are separate programs, and iOS doesn't let an app run separate programs.
    • Control Center switch (iOS 18+). Add NullVPN to Control Center, the Lock Screen or the Action button. It turns the VPN on and off with the server and settings you last used, and shows whether it's on. Connect once from the app first.
    • App icon for light, dark and tinted Home Screens (iOS 18+).
    • Memory use for each engine: Xray, Zeptun and Aether separately, not the app.
    • NullVPN appears under its own name in Settings → Battery.
    • Developer settings to tune the VPN extension's memory limits.
    • Stays under iOS's memory limit. iOS ends a VPN extension that uses more than about 50 MB. Apps that open dozens of connections at once, like Instagram and Spotify, could push it there. NullVPN keeps its engines lean and hands memory back as soon as it climbs.
  • In-app updates. When a new version is out, the update capsule asks before doing anything and shows version | size. After you accept, it downloads with a progress bar and checks the file against the release's SHA256SUMS.txt before installing.
    • Windows: NullVPN closes, then the normal installer opens.
    • Android: it picks the APK for your phone's architecture (arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a or x86_64) and opens Android's installer. The first time, Android asks you to let NullVPN install apps.
    • Linux: updates the package you installed — AppImage, .deb, .rpm or the tarball.
    • macOS: replaces the app and clears its quarantine flag, so it opens without the xattr command.
    • iPhone: opens the release page, since an .ipa has to be signed again.
  • Settings → Rules → Geo files, a page of its own like DNS:
    • Sources: Chocolate4U, Loyalsoldier, runetfreedom, v2fly, or your own addresses.
    • Updates: by hand, or automatically on a schedule.
    • Checks: each download is checked against the publisher's checksum and against every category your routing uses. A file that fails either check never replaces the one that works.
  • Swipe back. Slide from anywhere on a page to go back.

Tip

Not sure which Android file to pick? Choose arm64-v8a. On Linux, pick the .deb for Debian, Ubuntu or Mint, and the .rpm for Fedora.

📝 Install notes

  • Windows: the installer isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC". Click More info → Run anyway. It needs administrator rights, since it installs for all users.
  • macOS: open the .dmg and drag NullVPN into Applications. The app isn't signed by Apple yet, so run this once in Terminal before opening it: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/NullVPN.app. Updates from inside the app don't need it again.
  • iOS: the .ipa is unsigned. Sign and install it with ESign, Sideloadly or Xcode, using a certificate whose provisioning profile includes the Network Extension entitlement (packet tunnel). The first time you connect, iOS asks to add a VPN configuration; tap Allow.
  • TUN mode on macOS asks for your administrator password the first time, to install its helper. It asks once, not on every connect. To remove the helper later: sudo /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.nullvpn.helper uninstall.
  • Android: Google Play Protect may say it hasn't scanned the app yet. Tap Scan, or More info → Install.
  • Updating keeps your servers, subscriptions and settings.

🆕 جدید

  • NullVPN برای مک. یک برنامه یونیورسال برای مک های اینتل و Apple Silicon، macOS 12 به بالا. همه چیزهایی که بقیه دسکتاپ ها دارن رو داره: حالت های System Proxy و TUN، Aether، اشتراک ها، و تنظیمات مسیریابی و DNS.
    • حالت TUN فقط یک بار رمز ادمین رو میپرسه تا یک هلپر کوچیک نصب کنه. بعدش موقع وصل شدن چیزی نمیپرسه. هلپر تانل رو میسازه، DNS رو از داخلش رد میکنه و موقع قطع شدن همه چیز رو برمیگردونه، حتی اگه NullVPN به زور بسته بشه.
    • با عوض شدن شبکه (از وای فای به کابل، یا یک وای فای دیگه) خودش دوباره وصل میشه.
    • لینک های nullvpn:// توی همون برنامه باز میشن و اجرا موقع ورود هم کار میکنه.
  • NullVPN برای آیفون و آیپد، iOS 15 به بالا. به صورت فایل .ipa بدون امضا میاد که خودت امضاش میکنی؛ نکته های نصب رو ببین.
    • مثل اندروید کار میکنه: حالت های TUN، System Proxy و Proxy-only؛ هر دو موتور TUN (Xray و Zeptun)؛ اشتراک ها، مسیریابی، DNS، تست سرورها و لینک های nullvpn://.
    • Aether: WARP روی MASQUE یا WireGuard، Tor و مکان خروج. روی آیفون Aether هویت WARP اش رو بار اول که وصل میشی خودش میسازه.
    • روی iOS نیست: Psiphon و پل های Tor. هر دو برنامه جداگانه هستن و iOS اجازه نمیده یه برنامه، برنامه جداگانه ای اجرا کنه.
    • دکمه Control Center (iOS 18 به بالا). NullVPN رو به Control Center، صفحه قفل یا دکمه Action اضافه کن. VPN رو با آخرین سرور و تنظیماتی که استفاده کردی روشن و خاموش میکنه و نشون میده روشنه یا نه. اول یک بار از داخل برنامه وصل شو.
    • آیکون برنامه برای حالت روشن، تیره و رنگی (iOS 18 به بالا).
    • مصرف رم هر هسته: Xray، Zeptun و Aether جداگانه، نه خود برنامه.
    • NullVPN با اسم خودش توی Settings ← Battery نشون داده میشه.
    • تنظیمات توسعه دهنده برای تنظیم محدودیت های حافظه افزونه VPN.
    • زیر محدودیت حافظه iOS میمونه. iOS افزونه VPN ای رو که بیشتر از حدود ۵۰ مگابایت مصرف کنه میبنده. برنامه هایی که همزمان ده ها اتصال باز میکنن، مثل اینستاگرام و اسپاتیفای، میتونستن مصرف رو به اونجا برسونن. NullVPN هسته هاش رو سبک نگه میداره و به محض بالا رفتن مصرف، حافظه رو آزاد میکنه.
  • آپدیت از داخل برنامه. وقتی نسخه جدید بیاد، کپسول آپدیت قبل از هر کاری میپرسه و نسخه | حجم رو نشون میده. بعد از تایید، با نوار پیشرفت دانلود میکنه و قبل از نصب فایل رو با SHA256SUMS.txt همون نسخه چک میکنه.
    • ویندوز: NullVPN بسته میشه و نصب کننده معمولی باز میشه.
    • اندروید: APK مناسب معماری گوشیت (arm64-v8a، armeabi-v7a یا x86_64) رو انتخاب میکنه و نصب کننده اندروید رو باز میکنه. بار اول اندروید میپرسه اجازه نصب برنامه به NullVPN داده بشه.
    • لینوکس: همون بسته ای که نصب کردی رو آپدیت میکنه — AppImage، .deb، .rpm یا tarball.
    • مک: برنامه رو جایگزین میکنه و علامت قرنطینه اش رو پاک میکنه، پس بدون دستور xattr باز میشه.
    • آیفون: صفحه نسخه رو باز میکنه، چون فایل .ipa باید دوباره امضا بشه.
  • تنظیمات ← Rules ← فایل های Geo، یک صفحه جدا مثل DNS:
    • منبع ها: Chocolate4U، Loyalsoldier، runetfreedom، v2fly یا آدرس های خودت.
    • آپدیت: دستی یا خودکار و زمان بندی شده.
    • بررسی: هر دانلود با چک سام ناشرش و با همه دسته هایی که مسیریابیت استفاده میکنه چک میشه. فایلی که هر کدوم از این چک ها رو رد کنه هیچ وقت جای فایل سالم رو نمیگیره.
  • کشیدن برای برگشت. از هر جای صفحه بکش تا برگردی.

نمیدونی کدوم فایل اندروید رو بگیری؟ arm64-v8a رو بگیر. روی لینوکس، برای دبیان و اوبونتو و مینت .deb و برای فدورا .rpm رو بگیر.

📝 نکته های نصب

  • ویندوز: فایل نصب هنوز امضای دیجیتال نداره، برای همین ممکنه SmartScreen پیام «Windows protected your PC» نشون بده. روی More info و بعد Run anyway بزن. چون برای همه کاربرها نصب میکنه، دسترسی ادمین میخواد.
  • مک: فایل .dmg رو باز کن و NullVPN رو بکش توی Applications. برنامه هنوز امضای اپل نداره، پس قبل از باز کردنش یک بار توی Terminal بزن: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/NullVPN.app — آپدیت های داخل برنامه دیگه لازمش ندارن.
  • iOS: فایل .ipa امضا نداره. با ESign، Sideloadly یا Xcode امضا و نصبش کن، با سرتیفیکیتی که پروفایلش دسترسی Network Extension (packet tunnel) داره. بار اول که وصل میشی، iOS میپرسه VPN Configuration اضافه بشه — Allow رو بزن.
  • حالت TUN توی مک بار اول رمز ادمین رو میپرسه تا هلپرش رو نصب کنه؛ فقط یک بار، نه هر بار که وصل میشی. برای حذف هلپر: sudo /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.nullvpn.helper uninstall
