Migration Guide

For MCP Client Developers

If you're integrating with this MCP server, update your client code:

Before (v0.1.x):

# Old MCP protocol - will no longer work
from mcp.types import CallToolRequest, CallToolResult

After (v0.2.0):

# New MCP protocol - updated imports and handling
from mcp.types import TextContent
# Protocol handling updated internally - client-side changes may be required

Recommended Actions:

  1. Review your MCP client implementation
  2. Test connectivity with the new server version
  3. Update error handling for protocol changes

For End Users

  1. Check Python Version: Run python --version - must be 3.10 or later

  2. Upgrade Python if needed: Install Python 3.10+ before upgrading the MCP server

  3. Update Installation:

    pip install --upgrade youtube-transcript-mcp
  4. Test Integration: Verify your MCP client still works with the updated server
