Release 0.1.3
Release Notes
loadbars 0.1.3 — A stability and usability focused release that resolves several crash-related bugs and adds new display capabilities.
Features
- Load average display — The bars now show system load averages (1, 5, and 15 minute) directly in the visualization, giving you a quick at-a-glance view of system trends without needing a separate terminal.
- Split help menu — Help is now organized into two screens (
handH), making it easier to find commands without scrolling through a wall of text. - Advanced text toggling — More granular control over which text overlays are shown on the bars, so you can customize the display to your preference.
- Short hostnames — Hostnames are now displayed without the fully-qualified domain suffix, reducing clutter on busy multi-host displays.
Improvements
- Cleaner shutdown sequence — The display thread is now shut down before worker threads, preventing race conditions during exit.
- SSH pipe handling — Switched from bidirectional to unidirectional pipes for remote SSH connections, since only read access is needed. Loadbars now also retries automatically if an SSH pipe breaks, improving reliability for long-running monitoring sessions.
- Simplified summary display — Removed the buggy "summary CPU" toggle in favor of a cleaner per-host summary bar that only shows the hostname when relevant.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed crash on quit — Resolved a segfault that occurred when exiting, caused by threads not shutting down in the correct order.
- Fixed division by zero — Prevented a crash that could occur under certain CPU stat edge cases.
- Fixed additional segfaults — Identified and resolved multiple memory-related crashes found during extended monitoring sessions.
- Fixed hanging on quit — Loadbars no longer hangs when you press quit; all threads now exit cleanly.
Breaking Changes
