Release 0.2.1
Release Notes
loadbars 0.2.1 — a maintenance and polish release focused on licensing clarity, code quality, and small usability improvements.
Overview
This release updates the project license to GPL v2, refactors internal code for better maintainability, introduces a formal versioning scheme, and includes several minor fixes and documentation improvements.
License Change
- Switched from previous license to GNU General Public License v2. All source headers and the
COPYINGfile have been updated accordingly. If you redistribute loadbars, please review the new license terms.
Features & Improvements
- Separator lines between CPU bars — visual dividers make it easier to distinguish individual cores, especially on systems with many CPUs.
- Smarter CPU core numbering — core labels now adapt to the selected toggle mode, reducing confusion when switching views.
- CPU bar numbering starts at 1 — bar labels now begin at 1 instead of 0, matching how most users think about core numbers.
- FreeBSD compatibility restored — loadbars once again works correctly on FreeBSD systems.
- Formal versioning scheme documented — the README now explains the
a.b.c[.d]version format and the meaning of the-develsuffix, so you always know what kind of release you're running.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed last bar being too narrow — the rightmost CPU bar no longer renders narrower than the others.
- Removed a void-context warning — eliminates a harmless but noisy Perl warning during execution.
Code Quality
- Internal refactoring — significant restructuring of
loadbars.plfor improved readability and future maintainability (no user-facing behavior changes).
Documentation
- Added
BUGSfile listing known issues. - Added
WISHLISTfor planned future features. - Updated
CHANGELOGwith full release history. - Clarified help instructions in the README.
Breaking Changes
None. This is a drop-in replacement for v0.2.0.
