Release 0.5.0
Release Notes — loadbars 0.5.0
Overview
This release introduces memory statistics monitoring, significant performance improvements, and a more polished user experience. The internal architecture has been streamlined by removing the asynchronous event thread, resulting in more responsive and reliable operation. This is a feature release warranting the jump from 0.4.x to 0.5.0.
✨ New Features
- Memory statistics display — loadbars now collects and visualizes memory usage alongside CPU metrics, giving you a more complete picture of system resource utilization at a glance.
--maxwidthoption — Control the maximum window width to better fit your screen layout or tiling window manager setup.- Slow system warning — A helpful warning is now displayed when the monitoring host is too slow to keep up with the configured update interval, so you know to adjust settings rather than wonder about inaccurate readings.
⚡ Performance & Reliability
- Removed async event thread — The event-handling architecture has been simplified by removing the separate asynchronous event thread, reducing overhead and eliminating a class of potential race conditions.
- Optimized stat parsing — Replaced several regular expressions with faster parsing, improving responsiveness especially on systems with many CPU cores.
- Fixed event polling bug — Resolved an issue where SDL events could be missed or processed incorrectly, which could cause the UI to become unresponsive to keyboard input.
