v0.8.4
Release v0.8.4
Release Notes
Loadbars v0.8.4 simplifies platform support by removing macOS local monitoring and adds a GIF recording helper for creating demos.
⚠️ Breaking Changes
- macOS local monitoring removed. Running
loadbars localhoston macOS now exits with a clear error instead of using the Darwin-specific stats script. macOS remains fully supported as a client for monitoring remote Linux servers via SSH.
Features
- GIF recording script (
scripts/record-gif.sh): New helper to capture animated GIFs of loadbars on both Wayland and X11, useful for documentation and demos. - Animated GIF in README: The static screenshot has been replaced with an animated GIF showing loadbars in action.
Improvements
- Clearer error messaging: When running locally on an unsupported OS (no
/procfilesystem), loadbars now prints an explicit error message rather than silently failing. - Simplified codebase: Removed the embedded Darwin monitoring script (
loadbars-remote-darwin.sh) and associated OS-detection logic, reducing binary size and maintenance surface.
Migration
If you previously ran loadbars localhost on macOS, you will need to either:
- Monitor from macOS by pointing at remote Linux hosts (
loadbars user@linux-server) - Run loadbars on a Linux machine instead
