Release v0.9.0

Loadbars v0.9.0 Release Notes

Overview

This release simplifies network monitoring by aggregating traffic across all non-loopback interfaces instead of requiring users to select a specific one. It also adds hotkeys for quickly changing the network link speed reference, and includes a significant expansion of the test suite.

Breaking Changes

  • Removed netint config option and --netint flag. Network bars now automatically sum RX/TX across all non-loopback interfaces (e.g. eth0, wlan0, enp0s3). If you have netint=... in ~/.loadbarsrc, it will be ignored. You can safely remove it.
  • Removed n hotkey (cycle network interface). It is no longer needed since all interfaces are aggregated.

Features

  • Aggregated network stats: Traffic from every non-lo interface is combined into a single bar per host, giving a complete picture of network activity without needing to know which interface carries traffic.
  • Link scale hotkeys (f / v): Press f to increase and v to decrease the reference link speed (cycles through mbit → 10mbit → 100mbit → gbit → 10gbit). This lets you quickly adjust the utilization baseline without editing config files.

Improvements

  • Smoother network bars: The display now holds the last known value between collector updates instead of decaying toward zero on intermediate frames. This eliminates flickering and makes real traffic consistently visible.
  • Expanded test suite: Added comprehensive unit tests for all hotkey handlers (toggle cores/mem/net, extended mode, CPU/net average, link scale, arrow resize, write config, quit) and a dedicated test for multi-interface aggregation.

Migration

  1. Remove any netint=... line from ~/.loadbarsrc.
  2. If you had scripts using --netint, remove that flag.
  3. Press w in the app to write a clean config after upgrading.
