Panel Attack for Miyoo Mini Plus v0.9.3

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 03 Oct 22:28

New: Records screen (main menu > Records). Panel Attack only keeps a few records, and most aren't visible anywhere in the game, so this port adds a screen for them:

  • Endless and Time Attack: best score, last score, best chain and games played for every setting: Classic (Easy, Normal, Hard, EX) and Modern (levels 1–11). Panel Attack itself only saves Classic-style scores; Modern ones are saved from this version on. Classic records you set before updating are included.
  • Vs CPU: best total time for each difficulty, how many times you've cleared it and continues used. Pick a difficulty to see the stage times of your best run next to your best time on each stage. Vs CPU times weren't saved before, so they start with your next clear.
  • Vs Yourself: best and last garbage lines sent per level (Panel Attack's own records).
  • Lifetime: biggest chain and combo, panels cleared, garbage sent, and how many chains and combos of each size you've made, from the stats Panel Attack already keeps (Options > General > Enable analytics).

Switch modes with L/R or left/right. The new records are saved in data/miyoo_records.json; Panel Attack's own save files are only read.

This screen is added by the port and isn't part of Panel Attack. Please report problems here, not to the Panel Attack team.

Makes it clearer that this is an unofficial, modified port, and who to tell about bugs.

  • Crash reports are never sent to the Panel Attack server. (The original game sends them only from official builds, so this port wasn't sending any, but the call is now removed outright.) The crash screen now points to this project's issue tracker instead of the Panel Attack developers.
  • The title screen and main menu credit the original game (made by the Panel Attack team, panelattack.com), say that this modified port isn't affiliated with or supported by them and may have bugs, and give the address for bug reports.
  • The README, README.txt and MODIFIED.txt say the same.

Please report every problem with this port here, never to the Panel Attack team.

  • The title screen and main menu now say clearly that this is an unofficial port, not affiliated with or supported by the Panel Attack team.
  • Online play is turned off for now while we check with the Panel Attack team that they're happy for this port to use their server. The online code is unchanged; the switch is online.cfg in the game folder (Roms/PORTS/Games/PanelAttack).

  • Panel Attack is now in Games → Ports instead of Apps. Coming from an older version, the first launch moves your name, settings and replays over and removes the old Apps entry. (The Ports list needs OnionOS's "Ports" system from Package Manager → Verified.)
  • Fixed music and sounds playing about 9% fast (slightly high-pitched): OnionOS's audio always runs at 48 kHz, and the game now does too.
  • Uses OnionOS's own sound library, so add-ons that work with it (like MiniAmp's music in games) work in Panel Attack too.

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Oct 15:13

Cleanup release; gameplay and sound are unchanged from 0.8.0.

  • The FPS counter is off by default (it was on in the test builds). Turn it back on in Options → General if you want it.
  • log.txt only records warnings and errors now, instead of thousands of debug lines. For troubleshooting, the detailed logging can be switched back on in launch.sh.

Sound and music.

  • Music, character voices and sound effects play through OnionOS's audio service. Volume follows the handheld's buttons; fine-tune it in Options → Audio.
  • The theme's menu and game sound effects are new public-domain sounds made for this port (the originals are licensed to official Panel Attack releases only).
  • To fit the Mini Plus's memory, each character keeps up to three versions of each voice clip, and all audio is mono.
  • If no sound device is available, the game runs silently instead of failing.

Updating: Mixtape offers this as an update and keeps your data folder. By hand: replace App/PanelAttack, keeping its data folder.

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Oct 04:01

Licensing and credits update; the game itself is unchanged from 0.7.0.

  • The package is now plainly marked as an unofficial, modified version of Panel Attack (MODIFIED.txt in the game folder, and a note at the top of each edited file), as Panel Attack's zlib license asks.
  • OpenAL Soft's source code is attached to the release, as its LGPL license asks.
  • Credits for the art in the screenshots.

First public build.

  • Online versus on panelattack.com over Wi-Fi (lobby, challenges, ranked and casual).
  • Endless, Time Attack, Vs Yourself, Puzzles, Training and Challenge modes.
  • 60 fps on the Miyoo Mini Plus with a custom software renderer.
  • Handheld UI for 640×480: boards side by side with a centre info column, larger text, new menus, lobby and on-screen keyboard.
  • Installable and updatable from Mixtape.

Known gaps: no sound yet; local 2-player is not available; the Replays, Controls and puzzle-browser screens still use Panel Attack's original layouts. An FPS counter shows in the bottom-left corner (turn it off in Options → General).

Install by hand: delete App/PanelAttack if you have an older test build (keep its data folder), then copy the App folder from the zip to the root of your SD card.
