Release list
SoundBrowse v2.1.5
SoundBrowse for macOS, Apple Silicon (arm64).
Refined
- The previewer filename returns to its aligned position over the waveform, with a small shelf: the left bookend now extends a seamless lip under the name, as if the title sits on a ledge above the wave.
- Tighter pitch pill, and better rhythm on the bar's right side: the timer sits close to the waveform while the pitch knob gets room to breathe between timer and volume.
- Fixed: SoundBrowse no longer slows its timers when another app has focus. Previously the search debounce, the position clock, and UI updates could lag while you worked in your DAW with keep-playing enabled.
Install / update
curl -L -o ~/Downloads/SoundBrowse-mac.zip https://github.com/soundbrowse/soundbrowse-releases/releases/latest/download/SoundBrowse-mac.zipOr grab it from soundbrowse.app. Drag SoundBrowse to Applications, replacing the old one. Places, settings, and ratings are kept.
SoundBrowse v2.1.4
SoundBrowse for macOS, Apple Silicon (arm64).
New
- Filter chips. Type a filter like
bpm:120,key:F#m,artist:name, orrating:8+in the search bar and it bundles into a boxed, deletable chip the moment you finish the token (space, Enter, or clicking away). Remove chips with their × or with backspace at the start of the input. Chips combine with free text, so[bpm:120] kickreads exactly how you built it.
Refined
- Previewer: the filename is inset from the left bookend, descenders no longer clip, and the waveform sits a few pixels lower for balanced headroom. Bookends are slightly thicker.
- The pitch readout is a bordered pill again, rimmed in your accent color while pitch is active.
- Under the hood: an open folder-rename editor can no longer be closed by a background library refresh.
Install / update
curl -L -o ~/Downloads/SoundBrowse-mac.zip https://github.com/soundbrowse/soundbrowse-releases/releases/latest/download/SoundBrowse-mac.zipOr grab it from soundbrowse.app. Drag SoundBrowse to Applications, replacing the old one. Places, settings, and ratings are kept.
SoundBrowse v2.1.3
SoundBrowse for macOS, Apple Silicon (arm64).
Changed
- The previewer filename sits lower, resting on the waveform's crest: it descends a few pixels into the peaks with a soft background-colored halo, at the same depth in every density. More breathing room at the top of the bar, and the overlap reads as intentional layering.
Install / update
curl -L -o ~/Downloads/SoundBrowse-mac.zip https://github.com/soundbrowse/soundbrowse-releases/releases/latest/download/SoundBrowse-mac.zipOr grab it from soundbrowse.app. Drag SoundBrowse to Applications, replacing the old one. Places, settings, and ratings are kept.
SoundBrowse v2.1.2
SoundBrowse for macOS, Apple Silicon (arm64).
Changed
- The previewer filename now sits just above the waveform, tucked into the bar's existing headroom at the wave's left edge. The waveform still spans the entire bottom middle, and the transport, time, pitch knob, and volume all stay aligned on the waveform's line. No overlays, no fading.
Install / update
curl -L -o ~/Downloads/SoundBrowse-mac.zip https://github.com/soundbrowse/soundbrowse-releases/releases/latest/download/SoundBrowse-mac.zipThen double-click the zip and drag SoundBrowse to Applications, replacing the old one. Places, settings, and ratings are kept.
SoundBrowse v2.1.1
SoundBrowse for macOS, Apple Silicon (arm64).
Changed
- The waveform owns the bottom bar again. It stretches across the whole middle of the previewer, and the filename now floats over its left edge with a soft halo in the bar's own color. It shows at full strength when a preview starts, fades to a whisper a couple of seconds later, and comes back when you hover the waveform. Error messages stay fully visible. Scrubbing is unaffected — the label is click-through.

curl -L -o ~/Downloads/SoundBrowse-mac.zip https://github.com/Aeronyx/soundbrowse-releases/releases/latest/download/SoundBrowse-mac.zipThen double-click the zip and drag SoundBrowse to Applications, replacing the old one. Places, settings, and ratings are kept.
SoundBrowse v2.1.0
SoundBrowse for macOS, Apple Silicon (arm64).
What's new
- Embedded metadata. After indexing, SoundBrowse quietly reads tags inside your files: ID3 artist/BPM/key in mp3s, RIFF INFO artist and acid-chunk tempo in wavs, Vorbis comments in flacs. The
artist:,bpm:, andkey:filters now match embedded tags too; filename tags still take priority. The scan is throttled and reads only file headers, so it stays out of your way. - Ratings that survive moves. Rated files are now content-fingerprinted. If you reorganize your library and ratings point at old paths, Preferences > Ratings > Recover Ratings finds the moved files by content and restores their scores. Ratings also back up to disk automatically and restore themselves if the app's local storage is ever lost.
- One-line previewer. The filename now sits to the left of the waveform, so the transport, name, waveform, time, pitch knob, and volume all line up on a single row. Waveform bookends are thinner, shorter, and darker.
- Fixed: version label spacing in Preferences.

SoundBrowse v2.0
SoundBrowse for macOS, Apple Silicon (arm64).
SoundBrowse 2.0
New: sound ratings (pilot)
Turn on Stars under Preferences > Ratings and every sound gets a five-star control on the right of its row (visible on hover, half-star steps, a 10-point scale under the hood). Filter your library with rating:8+ or rating:any from the search bar. And the fun part: if you rate a new sound 10.0 while others already hold a 10.0, SoundBrowse offers to make room — one click slides every other ranking down proportionally so your newest find stands alone at the top. Ratings survive folder renames and work everywhere: browsing, search, and All. This is an experimental feature we're piloting; it ships off by default.
Refinements
- The pitch knob is smaller, right-click now also resets it, and the value/unit readout is a single compact label; click it to flip between semitones and cents
- The waveform sits flush in the previewer with subtle end markers instead of a boxed background
- Preferences shows the app version
Install / update
curl -L -o ~/Downloads/SoundBrowse-mac.zip https://github.com/Aeronyx/soundbrowse-releases/releases/latest/download/SoundBrowse-mac.zipThen double-click the zip and drag SoundBrowse to Applications, replacing the old one. Places, settings, and ratings are kept.
SoundBrowse v1.7.2
SoundBrowse for macOS, Apple Silicon (arm64).
Changes
- Pitch is now a knob. The preview pitch control next to the volume slider is a proper DAW-style knob: drag it up or down to adjust, scroll to step one unit at a time, double-click to reset. The small unit pill next to it switches the knob between semitones (±12) and cents (±100) for microtuning. The needle and arc light up in your accent color whenever pitch is active.
- Previewer layout. The waveform now sits above the filename, in line with the transport controls.
- Cleaner help text in the filter cheat sheet and tooltips.
Install / update
curl -L -o ~/Downloads/SoundBrowse-mac.zip https://github.com/Aeronyx/soundbrowse-releases/releases/latest/download/SoundBrowse-mac.zipThen double-click the zip and drag SoundBrowse to Applications, replacing the old one. Places and settings are kept.
SoundBrowse v1.7.1
SoundBrowse for macOS, Apple Silicon (arm64).
Search
- Results now mirror your folder structure. Searching a place shows only its top-level folders that contain matches; open one to drill down to matching subfolders and sounds, level by level — exactly like browsing. No more flat lists of deep subfolders, and the "More results not shown" message is gone for good.
- Tag filters:
bpm:120(also finds half/double-time, so 60 and 240 too),key:F#m(enharmonics match — Gbm finds F#m),artist:name(matches folder names in the path). Brackets group words:[120bpm],[artist:big boi]. BPM and key are read from file names. Click the tag button in the search bar to see the syntax and insert filters. - All is alphabetical across every place.
Auditioning
- Multi-select: shift-click for ranges, ⌘-click to toggle, shift+arrows from the keyboard. Dragging any selected file drags the whole selection into your DAW — combos hand over their .ptxp files.
- Preview pitch: the new pitch button next to the volume slider opens a small panel with ±12 semitones and ±100 cents of microtune, applied live to whatever's playing. Double-click the button to reset.

SoundBrowse v1.6.0
SoundBrowse for macOS, Apple Silicon (arm64).
What's new
- Much faster search. Each place is now indexed once in the background when the app starts, and searches run against that index instead of re-scanning the disk on every keystroke. On large libraries this is the difference between seconds and milliseconds per search.
- The index stays current. A filesystem watcher picks up files you add, delete, or rename while the app is open — no restart needed.
- Accurate status messages. "Library too large to scan fully" no longer appears on ordinary searches. You'll see "Indexing library — results will update" only while the first scan is still running, and results refresh on their own when it finishes.
- The window remembers its size and position between launches.
- Shorter, plainer wording throughout the empty states and Preferences.
