v0.2.0 is the second pre-release of the self-improvement app for Android. It is for trying the app out and for feedback. It is not a production release and is not distributed through a store.

What is new since v0.1.0

  • Steps from Health Connect (optional, off by default). A switch in the settings ("Schritte aus Health übernehmen") reads your daily step total from Health Connect: read-only, steps only, nothing is written back. An explanation comes first, then the system dialog. A value you typed in by hand always wins over the imported one. Android only; iOS (HealthKit) is not part of this release.
  • Browse the days. Home shows today or any of the seven days before it (swipe or two arrow buttons). A past day is read-only and shows the numbers it had back then: goals are stored per day, a change of a goal applies from tomorrow.
  • Goals overview. The goals card on Home opens "Ziele heute" with the state of every goal of the day. Each row opens its module, and "Ziele bearbeiten" opens the goal editor. The day ring is grey, yellow or green depending on whether no, some or all goals are reached, and the title of the card follows that state.
  • Daily workout goal with rest day and "skip today". Both count as reached, without XP.
  • Habits and tasks on Home. Tick them off right on the dashboard; the state is the same as in the habits tab.
  • Reminders for single tasks. Optional, set when you create or edit a task. Tapping the notification opens the task.
  • Plus menu offers only entries for goals you have set.
  • About the app. Tap the version in the settings for the version with build number, author, website link and the licence text. The settings now show the real version.
  • Fixes. The steps action no longer disappears after the first entry. In all forms the keyboard closes when you tap next to the field or drag the page. The wording of the reminder permission flow no longer names a platform.

Your data stays on the phone

Unchanged: local database, no account, no cloud, no telemetry, no internet permission. The website link on the "About" page hands over to your browser.

Update and backups: the backup format is version 2 now. Backups exported by v0.1.0 still import, and a database created by v0.1.0 is upgraded in place on the first start (tested with a database created by v0.1.0 code, see the test report). New fields start with defaults: existing steps count as typed in by hand, the Health switch is off, no task has a reminder, no day is marked as rest day or skipped.

Permissions: one new

New: android.permission.health.READ_STEPS. It lets the app read your step totals from Health Connect. It is only used after you switch "Schritte aus Health übernehmen" on and allow it in the system dialog of Health Connect; there is no write permission, no other kind of health data, no background reading and no extended history (the app looks at the last 7 days while it is open). For the dialog the app also declares a privacy explanation screen and a visibility entry for the Health Connect package; neither is a permission. Everything else is unchanged from v0.1.0 (notifications, boot completed to restore reminders, vibration).

Install

  1. Download app-release_v0.2.0.apk from the assets below (74 MB, SHA-256 f263040ae9688fffc38c9ff7b34ff76793111eeaec40fc0f55c694e2cb0f8d13). It needs Android 8.0 (API 26) or newer.
  2. Before you update, export a backup: gear icon → "Daten & Sicherung" → "Jetzt exportieren".
  3. Open the APK on the device and allow the installation when Android asks.

The APK is signed with a debug key, not a store signing key. If a build signed with a different key is already installed (for example a CI build), uninstall it first. This deletes the local data, which is why the backup comes first.

Known limitations

  • No real-device testing of v0.2.0 yet. Nothing in this release has been verified on a device so far (Samsung S25, iPhone); the checks are listed in the device checklist. This includes the Health Connect permission flow and the step import, the swipe between days, TalkBack, the reminder of a single task (delivery and tap) and the system back gesture.
  • Automated checks pass: 8,540 host tests, and CI is green for every pull request of this release (format, analysis, tests, debug and release builds, seven end-to-end flows on an Android 14 emulator). An emulator has no step data and is not a device.
  • Health Connect: the client library adds one exported service to the merged app manifest (HealthDataSdkService); this is documented in the known limitations. The step total is read per calendar day; whether it equals the total shown in Health Connect when several sources write steps has not been verified on a device.
  • Past days list the tasks completed that day and the habits of that day; open tasks of a past day are not reconstructed.
  • iOS: CI builds an unsigned test IPA that an iOS tester tried on an iPhone; there is no iOS release. HealthKit is not part of v0.2.0.
  • Placeholders: the launcher label is still "App-Name" (final name pending).
