Indigo v1.26.0-beta.1 Pre-release
Pre-release

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Sep 13:58
b0dc4bd

Beta. A pre-release for testing what comes next. The current stable release is linked from https://norvitech.com/indigo/.

Menu Widescreen

  • New setting, Setup › Display › Menu Widescreen, for a TV set to 16:9.
Indigo's own screens are drawn narrower so the TV's stretch gives them
back their shape: the background and its waves fill the whole screen, and
the cube, the text and the menus keep their size in the middle. The clock
moves into the corner. It changes as soon as you switch it. Games still
    follow Force Widescreen.

Fixes

  • Indigo stays on screen when stock Swiss is kept on the card as z.dol, as
the install guide says. At startup Indigo still ran Swiss's search for a
newer Swiss in the root of the card (z.dol, a.dol, start.dol,
boot.dol and similar names) and took any stock Swiss it found for one, so
PicoBoot and PicoLoader started Indigo only for it to start stock Swiss
straight away. Indigo no longer runs that search, which also made a copy of
Indigo named boot.dol start itself over and over.
  • Settings › Storage no longer offers A Edit on Save Folder while it is
dimmed. Without a Configuration Device there are no folders to list, so A
does nothing there. Dimmed network settings keep A Edit: A still opens
    their editor.

Documentation

  • The guide's example of a dimmed setting is Save Folder with no
Configuration Device. IPv4 Address, the old example, doesn't dim while DHCP
    is on.

For developers

  • Indigo is developed on GitHub. Changes land on the beta branch by pull
request, betas ship as vX.Y.Z-beta.N pre-releases, and a beta that holds
up is promoted to main as a release. docs/RELEASING.md
has the procedure and AGENTS.md the working detail.
  • GitHub Actions builds the DOL and the SD card zip for every push and pull
request, runs the three host-test lanes and the source checks (whitespace
and the UI isolation guardrail), and keeps the zip as an artifact to try on
a console. A pushed tag publishes its release from the tagged commit, with
SHA256SUMS.txt and a build provenance attestation.
  • The issue forms are the two Indigo ones; upstream's duplicates are gone.
  • make clean in buildtools/ui/tests/ removes every test it builds. It
used to leave the cube-motif tests behind and listed others twice; it now
removes the Makefile's own target lists, so a new test is cleaned too.
  • CI and releases run on the maintainer's own machines: every job gets a
fresh container that takes that one job and is thrown away, runs without
privileges, and can reach GitHub and nothing else
    (buildtools/ci/runner/).
  • CI checks more: the DOL's structure, size and the commit it names; the
zip's exact layout; a second build that must match the first byte for
byte; the host tests under Clang's sanitizers as well as GCC's; and a
policy check on the workflows themselves. One "CI passed" check sums up
    every job.
  • CI boots every build in Dolphin and walks its menus with a controller:
the cube turns through its four faces, each face opens and closes, and the
Library moves between games, on a demonstration disc of fictitious games.
Dolphin emulates the MMU, so a crash stops the test as it would stop a
console. Every step's picture is kept with the run
    (buildtools/ui/emulator/).

Indigo v1.25.0 — Memory Cards, a cube that flies in, and a drag-and-drop download

Choose a tag to compare

@spencercnorton spencercnorton released this 26 Sep 00:19

The first formal release of Indigo, with everything from the last three days in one download:
a save explorer for your memory cards, a cube that flies in when Indigo starts, In-Game
Reset that comes back to Indigo, fixes for SD adapters, and a download you drag straight onto
your SD card.

New here? norvitech.com/indigo has the full guide and
videos of every screen.

Memory Cards

  • Memory Cards, a new row on the System face between System Information
and Restart Indigo, shows the saves on the memory cards in Slot A and Slot
B and in folders on the SD card, much as the GameCube's own Memory Card
screen does. Each save shows its banner, the game's name for it and its
size in blocks; the tab says how many blocks the card has free, and the
line above the buttons shows the rest of the save's comment. L and R move
between Slot A, Slot B and the SD card; A opens a folder.
  • A on a save copies, moves or deletes it. Copy and Move go to the other
slot, to the Save Folder, or to another folder you choose. A save copied
    off a card becomes a .gci named as Dolphin names a GCI folder's saves;
Action Replay (.sav) and GameShark (.gcs) saves copy onto a card too.
Every copy is read back and compared before it counts, and a Move removes
the original only then. A card that already has the save, or hasn't the
room for it, says so and nothing changes; a save its game marks as not to
be moved can be copied but not moved; Delete asks first, with Cancel
    highlighted.
  • Settings › Setup › Storage › Save Folder chooses where saves copied off
a card go: a folder on the Configuration Device, swiss/saves until you
choose another (key Save Folder in global.ini). A lists the folders, X
    chooses the one that's open.
  • The System face's three rows sit a little closer together to fit under
the cube, and Restart Indigo's confirmation returns to its row, now the
    third.

The cube flies in

  • When Indigo starts, the Home cube flies in from the distance. It starts
as a small spinning cube in the middle of the screen, tumbles toward you,
and comes to rest on Library half a second later. Home is ready after 0.8
seconds instead of 1.15, and the cube is in view from the first frames
instead of fading up out of a dark screen.
  • Starting no longer dims the screen before the cube appears. The face name,
its hint and the glass's light fade in as the cube arrives instead of
    switching on at once.
  • With UI Motion set to Reduced, the cube fades in where it rests. With Off
it is simply there, as before.

In-Game Reset comes back to Indigo

  • With In-Game Reset set to Apploader, A + Z + START during a game now
returns to Indigo. A reset restarts whatever swiss/patches/apploader.img
holds, and until now that was stock Swiss's copy. The release zip now
carries Indigo's own. It replaces stock Swiss's, so a game started from
stock Swiss resets to Indigo too.

A drag-and-drop download

  • The download is drag and drop. Indigo-vX.Y.Z.zip is laid out exactly
as the card is: unzip it, select everything inside and drag it onto the
root of the SD card. Before, everything sat in an Indigo-vX.Y.Z/SD card/
folder inside the zip. An Indigo-README.txt says what each file is for,
and the licence and notice now travel in swiss/indigo/.

Fixes

  • Starting a game from the Library opens its file afresh. A read error while
browsing, which a slow SD card adapter (SD2SP2, SD Gecko) can cause, no
longer carries into the launch. A launch that failed after setup no longer
leaves the next try reading the game from the wrong place on the card.
  • Indigo records when you last played a game before it prepares the game, as
Swiss does with its recent list. It no longer writes to the card after the
    game's data has been mapped.

Documentation

  • Every picture in the README and the guide is recorded again on this
release, and the README gains two animations: the cube flying in when
Indigo starts, and Memory Cards copying a save to the SD card. The guide's
Memory Cards page has pictures of each screen and a card of its own on the
guide's index, next to System. The README and the guide link the video
tour and the Indigo page at norvitech.com/indigo; the poster and cheat
downloads stay at indigo.norvitech.com, with their checksums.
  • The guide says Settings help closes with B as well as Y.

For developers

  • make dev also builds the packer (cube/packer/reboot.dol), compressing
with xz because the build image has no 7z, and
buildtools/sd_package.sh turns it into that apploader.img.
  • The host test suite ships with the source: buildtools/ui/tests/ (C unit
tests, GX vertex-stream checks and source audits) and the UI isolation
guardrail buildtools/check_ui_isolation.sh are now in the public
repository, so anyone can run what CI runs with
    buildtools/ui/tests/run_tests.sh all.

Install

  1. Download Indigo-v1.25.0.zip below.
  2. Unzip it, select everything inside and drag it onto the root of your SD card. If the card already has an ipl.dol, that is your current Swiss: rename it to z.dol first to keep it.
  3. Put your games in /games and power on.

@spencercnorton spencercnorton released this 25 Sep 21:59

Every face of the Home cube has four icons of its own, the icons stay sharp on the glass, and the cube is calmer: no corner sun, no passing band of light, and no dot circling the temperature dial.

Install

  1. If your card already has an ipl.dol in its root, that is your current Swiss. Rename it to z.dol first; holding Z while you power on starts it.
  2. Unzip Indigo-v1.24.0.zip and copy the contents of its SD card folder to the root of the card.
  3. Put your games in /games, either one folder per game or the disc images directly, with nothing else in that folder.
  4. On Home, turn the cube to Library and press A.

PicoBoot and other modchips boot ipl.dol from the root. With GC Loader or another loader that boots a disc image, start ipl.dol from Swiss instead. Your Swiss settings carry over. The Install page covers every loader.

Posters and cheats (optional). Ready-made downloads, unzipped into the root of the card: posters, USA & Japan · posters, Europe & Australia · cheats, every region. Checksums and details at https://indigo.norvitech.com. Without posters, each game shows its disc banner and game ID. Building your own posters.pak still works; see Posters.

What's new

  • Each face of the Home cube has four icons of its own, and no face offers
another face's. Library has Controller, Books, Covers and Play; Source has
    Hub, Disc, SD Card and Folder; Settings has Sliders, Gear, Toggles and Dial;
System has Clock, Info, Power and Chip. Covers, Play, SD Card, Folder,
Toggles, Dial, Info, Power and Chip are new, and None is gone.
  • A settings file that names an icon from another face's list, or None,
leaves that face on its first icon.
  • The face icons are drawn after the glass's glow instead of under it, so
their lines stay sharp and easy to read.
  • The sun no longer glints in the corner of the glass, and no band of light
passes over it while Home rests. The rest of the glass (the bent view
through it, the prism edges, the glow, the rim and the halo) is unchanged.
  • The dot that circled the temperature dial at the top right is gone; the
    time and the temperature stay.

What's new

  • The sun that a corner of the Home cube catches is now a small glint with
short rays instead of a large starburst. Its core is smaller and softer,
the streak and rays are shorter and fainter, and the reflections across
the screen are fainter. The README and guide pictures of Home, Source and
System are recorded again with it.

What's new

  • The README's Library animation shows all three layouts, and two new
animations follow its Settings paragraph: a tour of Settings in its new
look, and Y opening a game's settings from the Library. Home, Game Detail
and Menu Color are recorded again on this release.
  • The guide's Library page has an animation of the Library Layout setting
and of the Vertical and Grid layouts, and one of Y and a game's settings.
Every picture of Settings, Game Detail, the cheat browser, the Library,
the Source and System screens and the troubleshooting box is new, so each
    shows the current look.
  • The guide's Game Detail, Settings and Controls pages describe the
Settings line on Game Detail, Y in the Library and each layout's buttons.

Lay the Library out as a row, a column or a grid, and press Y on a game to open its own settings.

Install

  1. If your card already has an ipl.dol in its root, that is your current Swiss. Rename it to z.dol first; holding Z while you power on starts it.
  2. Unzip Indigo-v1.23.0.zip and copy the contents of its SD card folder to the root of the card.

Checksums and details at https://indigo.norvitech.com. Without posters, each game shows its disc banner and game ID. Building your own posters.pak still works; see Posters.

What's new

  • Library Layout, the first setting in Setup › Library, lays the Library out
three ways. Horizontal is the row of covers you know. Vertical is a
column down the left of the screen, turning like a wheel, with the
selected game's title, publisher and details beside its cover. Grid
shows rows of five covers, three rows at a time, with a lit frame that
slides to the selected cover and its title and publisher above the
    controls.
  • Every layout wraps round from the last game to the first. In the grid,
Left and Right run on from one row to the next, Up and Down move a row
and keep to the column, and L and R move three rows at a time.
  • Y on a game in the Library opens that game's own settings, in every
layout. Leaving them shows the game's details, and B returns to the
Library with the same game selected. Y never starts a game, even with
    Boot without prompts on.
  • The sliders mark that shows a game has settings of its own now appears
on every cover that shows its art.

What's new

  • When a face of the Home cube turns through the light as the cube turns or

Every Settings page is redrawn in the cheat browser's look: cards, ON and OFF switches, and a line that says what the highlighted setting does.

Install

  1. If your card already has an ipl.dol in its root, that is your current Swiss. Rename it to z.dol first; holding Z while you power on starts it.
  2. Unzip Indigo-v1.22.0.zip and copy the contents of its SD card folder to the root of the card.

What's new

  • Every Settings page (Quick, Game Defaults, Setup and its six sections, and
a game's own settings) is drawn like the cheat browser: one full page, the
tabs as a segmented control between L and R, the settings as cards, and the
highlighted one lit with an accent bar that slides as you move.
  • Settings that are on or off show an ON or OFF switch; settings with more
choices show their value in a pill, with arrows while highlighted. Text
settings read like a field, and "Not set" when empty. Menu Color shows a
    swatch of the color.
  • A line above the buttons says what the highlighted setting does, or what
its current value does. The buttons that work are shown as icons, with
Save & Exit and Discard & Exit beside them.
  • The list of choices, the help and every message and progress box are cards
in the same style; a warning's accent is amber and a failure's red.
  • A game's own settings count their Custom rows at the top right ("2
custom"), and Game Detail gains a SETTINGS line: how many are the game's
own and the first of them, or "Game Defaults" with X to change them.
  • The page stays on screen for the whole of Settings instead of being
rebuilt after every press, so it never flickers.

The Home cube is glass that bends light: its far edges refract through the front, the edges part the light into colour, and a corner flares like the sun.

Install

  2. Unzip Indigo-v1.21.0.zip and copy the contents of its SD card folder to the root of the card.

What's new

  • The Home cube is glass that refracts: through the front you see the cube's
far edges, its inner cube and the backdrop, bent and slightly magnified,
and the rounded edges part the light into red, green and blue like a prism.
  • Highlights, glints and the face icons glow. A fine rim lights the edges
that face the light, a halo sits behind the cube, and the glass focuses a
patch of light on the floor under it.
  • A corner that catches the light flares like the sun: a bright point, six
rays, a long streak and faint reflections strung across the screen.
  • While Home rests, a band of light passes over the glass every seven
seconds. It needs UI Motion set to Full.
  • All of it follows Menu Color. The sun's white core and the prism's fringes
    keep their own colors.

  2. Unzip Indigo-v1.20.0.zip and copy the contents of its SD card folder to the root of the card.

What's new

  • In the Library, a small sliders mark in the corner of a cover means the
game has settings of its own: at least one that differs from Game
Defaults, the same count Game Detail shows as "X SETTINGS (2 CUSTOM)". A
game reset to its defaults loses the mark. It follows Menu Color.
  • Indigo reads the games' settings files once when the Library first opens,
and again after you save settings.
  • Game Defaults no longer shows Force Vertical Offset. That default never
reached a game (each game starts at -3 with GCVideo or GCDigital and +0
otherwise), so the row did nothing. Set it in a game's own settings; the
key in global.ini is still read.
