v4.0.0: Merge pull request #35 from spider-gazelle/fix-filter-ordering

filter functions now execute in the order of their definition and from base classes to inherited classes.
previously filter functions would run from the inherited classes to the base class.

major release as technically a change to behaviour is being made however this is also considered a bug fix
