There are two ways to access the editor:
Press Ctrl + Shift + M.
Note: You'll need to press this shortcut every time you want to open the editor.
Download the original Refunct TAS mod, which contains the same map editor.
Maps are stored in:
AppData\Roaming\refunct-tas\maps
You can also open this folder directly from within the editor.
The editor is fairly intuitive:
- Point at an object to select it.
- Move, rotate, and edit objects directly.
- Experiment! Most functionality is easy to discover.
Note: We're not yet 100% sure custom levels are fully supported, so some ideas may end up not working.
To make a map suitable for Archipelago, we'd like to follow a few design principles:
- Every button and platform should ideally become an Archipelago location check.
- Progression should be based on unlocking clusters and abilities, similar to the Ability Randomizer.
- Players should usually have multiple routes between clusters.
- Avoid excessive verticality—the original game works well because movement is flexible and there are often several ways to reach an area.
- Try introducing fun new platforming ideas, such as:
- Long pipes
- Tiny platforms
- Walkways made from many small platforms
- Slanted platforms
- Other creative mechanics that still fit Refunct's movement
- Ideally, every cluster starts underwater, allowing it to rise or become accessible when activated.
