@spmealin spmealin released this 15 Sep 17:34

This is the first public work-in-progress release of the Perfect Dark accessibility fork.

Highlights

  • Screen-reader narration for menus, HUD messages, objectives, equipment, and results screens
  • Spatial audio scanners for enemies, doors, interactable and pickup items, people, cameras, hazards, and mission targets
  • Virtual cane, audible compass, player markers, combat radar, and scenario-specific navigation cues
  • Accessible aiming feedback, including direction, elevation, target type, body region, special devices, scopes, and FarSight modes
  • Accessibility support across the Carrington Institute, single-player missions, and Combat Simulator

Getting started

  1. Download and fully extract the Windows ZIP.
  2. Supply your own legally obtained US Rev 1 Perfect Dark ROM at data/pd.ntsc-final.z64.
  3. Start your preferred screen reader.
  4. Run pd.x86_64.exe. An Xbox controller plus keyboard is the best-supported input combination.

Headphones are strongly recommended for spatial audio cues. See ACCESSIBILITY.md in the repository for the player guide and keyboard shortcuts.

Important

  • No ROM or extracted game assets are included.
  • This remains a work in progress; pathfinding and automatic movement are not implemented.
  • Built for Windows x86_64 from commit 66f0cb5 using the ntsc-final configuration, with accessibility enabled by default.
  • SHA-256: 76a967bccbc4dbb81f56c0ea315960727905870a6f1d757b6e5a8945efee4793
