Release list
oaica 0.8.1
Patch release over 0.8.0. No catalogue, gate or entitlement changes — corrected
licence notices and current binaries.
Why 0.8.1
The 0.8.0 archives were built before the licence audit, so every download
carried an end-user licence agreement whose grant still read "one machine per
licence" (the plans cover one named user on two personal devices) and whose
editions list still claimed "oaica's own hosted models" (oaica ships no hosted
service; the oaica-* ids resolve against the gateway you point
OAICA_GATEWAY_URL at). The same build predates three defects closed since:
- control bytes from a clipboard failure could reach the TUI frame unescaped;
- the launch version check could hang on a wrapper script;
- a live trial switched off with
OAICA_TRIALwas told its trial had ended.
Nothing here changes what the free tier or a licence can do — if you are on
0.8.0 the upgrade is about the notice text and those three fixes.
Verify
curl -fsSL https://github.com/sprapp-com/oaica-code/releases/latest/download/install.sh | sh
oaica --version # oaica 0.8.1
Every archive is listed in SHA256SUMS and checked by the installer before it
is extracted.

OAICA_VERSION=0.8.1 pins a version; OAICA_DOWNLOAD_BASE fetches from a
mirror. oaica is free for 14 days with no activation code.
oaica 0.8.0
oaica 0.8.0 — audit closure + offline entitlements
Client changes accumulated since 0.7.0, all pinned by regression tests:
- Audit rounds 142–159 across launch, chat, agent, gateway: licence-gate
and plan-tier probe-count correctness, terminal-safety hardening on
every sink, scheme-word carve coverage, listing-race fixes. - Offline entitlement claims: the client verifies the licence server's
signed (Ed25519) claim and honours a subscription's rights offline,
bounded by paid_through / offline_deadline. - Version retirement floor: the licence-server /version check can retire
builds below min_supported, alongside the existing upgrade notice. - Pricing and licensing docs updated (BUNDLE_PRICING.md, PRICING,
EDITIONS, LICENSING). - Site landing page updated.
Install as usual: https://oaica.com/install.sh (or the release's own
install.sh). Requires a licence after the free 14-day trial.
oaica 0.7.0
oaica 0.7.0
The licensing release. oaica is no longer MIT, and the free/paid line has
moved.
Licensing
oaica-code is now proprietary. The upstream Ollama code keeps its MIT
licence in LICENSE and that has not changed; the oaica modifications, source
and prebuilt binary are licensed under EULA.md.
A fresh install is free for 14 days, with no activation code and no account.
Nothing is sent anywhere to start it. After the trial, the paid features need a
key (oaica activate <key>).
The free/paid line
One sentence: free is everything a launch needs to run, paid is everything
that makes it better than it has to be.
| Free | Paid |
|---|---|
local models, oaica serve |
the background tier (--haiku-model) |
| your own endpoints and API keys | context escalation (--oversize) |
the --sonnet-model subagent tier |
weighted routing (--shard) |
a saved --plan |
the guided wizard (--wizard) |
route policies that pin routing (local-first, local-only, remote-only) |
policies that pick a leg for you (remote-first, auto, weighted) |
| your own Claude login | vendored APIs the catalog prices as paid |
The free tier never expires and never needs a key. This replaces the previous
rule, under which any tier flag was paid — which put subagents behind the
paywall on a fresh install.
Fixed
- A saved
--planand the standing~/.oaica/config.jsontiers both reach a
launch without appearing in its arguments, so neither was visible to the
licence gate: oneoaica config set haiku-model …bought the paid background
tier permanently. Both are now resolved and judged by the same rules as the
flags. - The check for whether an integration reads the tier split asked the launch
arguments for the integration's name, which never appears there. It now
asks the runner, which is where the fact lives.
Install
curl -fsSL https://github.com/sprapp-com/oaica-code/releases/latest/download/install.sh | bashThe installers ask you to accept the EULA and offer to install Ollama (the
default local engine) — they never install an engine on their own.
Non-interactive installs accept with OAICA_ACCEPT_TERMS=1.
