Changes since v4.5.2.

New Features

  • MagicX Zero 28, Zero 40 and XU20 (in development, testers wanted!) (tons of work under the hood by @CatalyticArkun)
  • GameTank: standalone GameTankEmulator is now the default on every device except the Miyoo Minis, with a pop-up pause menu on Select (@Sundownersport)
  • USB audio: headsets and DACs on the Flip, TrimUI A133P devices and Anbernic XX models whose kernel supports it, with hot-plug, volume and inline remote (@WildEmu)
  • Screensaver: analog clock style, and the clock follows the 12/24 hour setting (@Sundownersport)
  • RetroAchievements offline: cached games, pending awards, keep the library or a system offline, and recently played games are cached (@Sundownersport)
  • RetroAchievements settings: Web API Key field for the Cheevos app (@Sundownersport)
  • New Cheevos app for viewing and managing your RetroAchievements directly on your device! (@abalakh)
  • Perfect RetroShaders added to the RetroArch shader list (@ryanmsartor)
  • RGB30: LED mode setting, and the LED blinks where other devices would vibrate (@ryanmsartor)
  • MagicX: LEDs are controlled from the spruce settings, as on Miyoo devices (@ryanmsartor)
  • Zero 28: the LED flashes where other devices would vibrate, since it has no rumble motor (@ryanmsartor)

Improvements

  • Game Nursery: new games and apps; shorter first-run slideshow (@ryanmsartor)
  • Box art: B aborts optimization after scraping, and it no longer slows down (@luigismith)
  • Box art: the screensaver and idle shutdown stay off while optimizing or downloading (@luigismith, @BackwardsCire)
  • Optimize Boxart prompt points at Settings > Tasks (@BackwardsCire)
  • Settings > Tasks: emulator reset tasks are grouped in a subgroup, and Miyoo Minis no longer show resets for emulators they don't have (@ryanmsartor)
  • Game switcher can close apps as well as games (@ryanmsartor)
  • Battery level and LED mode are checked more often (@ryanmsartor)
  • Time sync is more reliable, including on the A30 (@Sundownersport)
  • TrimUI A133P: the SD card is mounted async at boot, so card access is much faster on the Brick and Brick Pro (@BackwardsCire)
  • Smart Pro S: GPU capped at 600 MHz in every CPU mode and the firmware 1.0.2 fan cap is lifted (@CatalyticArkun)
  • Brick Pro: larger UI in Flycast standalone (@ryanmsartor)
  • DSperate updated to v3.0.3 (fixes many graphical issues) (@beebono, @ryanmsartor)
  • Miyoo Mini: PyUI menu sounds, and RetroArch and GVU sound through Onion's audio library (@Sundownersport)
  • Miyoo Mini Flip: on-screen volume bar follows the volume keys (@Sundownersport)
  • RetroArch: shaders are off by default until you pick one (@ryanmsartor)

Bug Fixes

  • Miyoo Minis: WiFi network list was empty (@Sundownersport)
  • Upgrading from older versions no longer leaves a broken BaseOS launcher behind (@Sundownersport)
  • Lynx: Option 1 and Option 2 are back on L and R (@luigismith)
  • Flip: headphone plug/unplug switches the output in game (@luigismith)
  • Flip: the controller is found by name, so it works when the event number changes (@WildEmu)

  • Flip / Mini Flip: no longer sleeps at boot when the lid sensor wrongly reports closed (@Sundownersport)

  • Brick: screen lights up after sleep when brightness is 0 (@Sundownersport)
  • Smart Pro S: Vulkan cores no longer leak display modes (@CatalyticArkun)
  • TrimUI A133P: Forget all WiFi networks also clears the system list (@BackwardsCire)
  • PortMaster: fixed ports failing on a double-slash path (@duyquang6)
  • RGB30: battery charging status reads correctly (@ryanmsartor)
  • dArkMoss: audio config is written at boot without Bluetooth (@Sundownersport)

Manual Installation

  • Download spruceV4.5.4.7z
  • Extract onto your PC using 7zip
  • Copy the entire contents to a blank FAT32 formatted SD card.
  • Seriously, use 7zip to extract onto your PC THEN copy the files. IDK why but Windows breaks stuff if you use its built in extraction tool.

OTA Update

  • spruceOTA-v4.5.2-to-v4.5.4.7z contains only the files changed since the previous stable release.
  • It also contains a deletion manifest for files removed since the previous stable release.
  • This package is intended for OTA updates from v4.5.2 to v4.5.4.
