ShowSlate v0.12.0-beta.2 - Mac-first public beta
ShowSlate Live Compositor 0.12.0 Beta 2
This beta adds clean local Program recording and completes a substantial operator-workflow update. ShowSlate can now build and run layered scenes, switch Preview to Program, route independent display canvases, operate a compact Live Mode deck and record the resulting Program with enabled Program audio.
Mac-first work in progress: this is an evaluation build for off-air testing. The packaged Apple Silicon Mac app has completed the operator and recording checks described below. Windows packages build in native CI but have not yet been manually validated on physical Windows hardware. ShowSlate is not production-certified: rehearse the exact computer, displays, storage, media, capture devices, audio route and fallback before a live event.
ShowSlate may be used as one component in a staffed production, but this beta does not replace specialist crew roles, redundant signal paths or independent backup hardware.
Download
| Status | Platform | Package |
|---|---|---|
| Primary tested beta | Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) | ShowSlate-0.12.0-beta.2-arm64.dmg |
| Experimental, physical validation needed | Windows 10/11 x64 | ShowSlate-Setup-0.12.0-beta.2.exe |
The portable Windows EXE is an advanced no-install option with the same experimental status. SHA256SUMS.txt is included with the release. The previous 0.11.0-beta.1 packages remain available for comparison and rollback.
GitHub's automatic Source code ZIP and TAR.GZ files are developer archives and will not install ShowSlate. Download one of the named packages above.
Record Program
- Start and stop a clean Program recording from the visible Record Program control in the main header.
- Capture the Program canvas without Preview, the controller interface or operator overlays.
- Choose the save folder, filename prefix, Program/1080p/1440p/4K/custom resolution, 24/25/30/50/60 fps, quality and bitrate under Settings > Recording.
- Use Automatic format selection, explicit MP4/H.264 or WebM. Automatic prefers MP4 when the current encoder supports it and otherwise falls back to WebM.
- Include the enabled Program audio mix at a selectable audio bitrate.
- See elapsed time while recording, last-file status after stopping and free disk space before starting.
- Stream recording chunks directly to disk instead of retaining the complete recording in memory.
Live operation and media
- A compact Live Mode performance deck exposes the same compositions, scenes and source layers without creating a separate project state.
- Scene and source visibility, drag ordering, Preview, TAKE, GO NEXT and Program-layer actions follow the operator's visible state.
- Video transport supports Preview, Program or Both targeting, play/pause/restart/stop, IN and OUT points, loop/hold behavior, speed and restart-on-TAKE.
- Program and Preview playback stay synchronized while audio routing remains explicit and off by default.
- Audio mixer faders and mute controls now update the live media graph.
- Large media is linked and byte-range streamed from disk; ShowSlate does not impose the previous 200 MB playback limit or silently recompress originals.
- UHD source profiles and 4K60 validation are available where the source device, codec, computer and outputs can sustain them.
- Show files can be saved and loaded while preserving compositions, scenes and operator state.
Composition and outputs
- Advanced projector mapping separates Input Selection from Output Mapping.
- A destination can show the normal Program without mapping, or use one or more named mapping surfaces.
- Surfaces support four-corner perspective, bounded linear mesh, polygon masks, calibration patterns and manual edge-blend controls.
- Multiple surfaces can target one output, and several independently configured destinations can receive the same Program.
- Compact and resized layouts keep Preview, Program, scenes, layers, inspector, mixer and primary commands reachable.
Verification completed for this beta
- Source display smoke completed with
SMOKE_OK. - The packaged Apple Silicon application completed the full display smoke with
SMOKE_OK. - Recording model tests completed
5/5; Composer renderer tests completed68/68; all eight renderer suites passed. - A real packaged-app operator run recorded the exact Program test pattern as a 1920x1080 MP4/H.264 file with AAC stereo audio at 48 kHz. The 37.9-second file was decoded and inspected independently with FFmpeg.
- The installed Desktop application reports
0.12.0-beta.2and passes strict local code-signature verification.
Important limits
- The Mac package is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. The Windows packages are unsigned. Operating systems can show an unknown-developer warning.
- Windows packages are produced and checked in native CI, but this release has not been manually validated on a physical Windows computer. Treat Windows as experimental and use it off-air until that changes.
- Recording codecs depend on the encoders available through Electron and the operating system. Test the exact requested format before relying on it.
- Record Program creates one composited Program file. It is not multitrack recording, replay, streaming or redundant broadcast capture.
- 4K, 50/60 fps, several simultaneous videos and multiple outputs can exceed the practical limits of a given computer or drive.
- Window/display and camera/UVC streams remain local to the desktop app and its Electron output windows. Browser/OBS URL outputs do not receive those local streams.
- Physical projector alignment, every UVC capture card, every codec and external OBS/vMix alpha behavior are not universally certified.
- ShowSlate is not an NDI router, multibus audio mixer, PTZ/DMX controller or multi-room synchronization platform.
Download only from this repository, verify SHA256SUMS.txt when needed and keep an independent fallback for show-critical use.
ShowSlate v0.11.0-beta.1
ShowSlate Live Compositor 0.11.0 Beta 1
This beta establishes ShowSlate as a local-first live compositor. New installations open with Composer, Preview and Program ready for scene work, while the previous rundown, timer, lower-third, GO transaction and role-based Conference Desk workflow remain available when a production needs them.
Work in progress: this is an evaluation build for off-air testing. Expect bugs and unfinished hardware-specific behavior. It is not production-certified; always test the exact show computer and signal chain and keep a fallback.

| Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) | ShowSlate-0.11.0-beta.1-arm64.dmg |
| Windows 10/11 x64 | ShowSlate-Setup-0.11.0-beta.1.exe |
The portable Windows EXE is an advanced no-install option. SHA256SUMS.txt is included with the release. The previous 0.10.0-beta.1 packages remain available.

New Composer workflow
- Start in a Composer-first workspace with Preview, Program, scenes, layers and the inspector visible together.
- Choose a 1080p, 720p, square, vertical, UHD or custom Canvas resolution and frame rate.
- Create, duplicate, select and delete reusable scenes from the Composer header.
- Stack pictures, local video, PDF pages, colors, text and the ShowSlate timer as ordered layers.
- Add an application window, entire display, camera or UVC capture card as a live layer.
- Select an optional audio input for a capture device.
- Camera and audio access are requested by separate operator actions; denied permissions produce a bounded, actionable state with a direct shortcut to the matching macOS Privacy setting instead of leaving device discovery running.
- Drag and resize layers in Preview or enter exact position, size, opacity, rotation and fit in the inspector.
- Replace a window or device without losing its layer transform.
- Prepare privately in Preview, then use TAKE to send the complete scene to Program.
The application now uses a layered-canvas icon and a neutral compositor interface. Timing remains available as an optional scene source and under Settings > Timing, while the permanent live workspace is reserved for Preview, Program, transitions, GO and scene composition.
Multi-output, projector mapping and audio safety
Every desktop route can be fullscreen, windowed, an exact pixel size or a grid cell. Multiple routes can receive the same Program at once while keeping independent standard or custom output Canvas dimensions, frame rate and Fit/Cover/Fill scaling.
For a projector or LED processor, Map projector opens the Composition workspace for that destination. The operator can move four corner points, enable an adjustable calibration grid and set soft-edge values for a simple irregular surface. The transform is applied to the complete Program, including scene media, timer, text, logos and lower thirds.
New routes start with the active Canvas dimensions. Preflight warns when a destination and Canvas use different aspect ratios. A route is not reported as live until its renderer acknowledges the current Program revision.
Preview is always muted. Program audio is off by default and can be enabled on only one local desktop output. This prevents accidental echo and feedback; ShowSlate is not an audio mixer.
Important limits
- Window/display and camera/capture-card streams are local to the ShowSlate desktop app and its Electron output windows. They do not travel through the browser/OBS URL output.
- Capture source identifiers are machine-local and can change. Re-select live inputs after moving a show to another computer.
- Canvas imports are limited to 200 MB per file.
- Capture cards must appear as standard operating-system video/UVC devices. Real compatibility depends on the device, driver, source format and HDCP status.
- ShowSlate does not encode or stream, route NDI, provide multibus audio mixing, control PTZ/DMX or synchronize multiple rooms.
- Projector mapping currently provides four-corner correction and a calibration grid. It does not provide arbitrary mesh warping, masks, automatic camera calibration or projector color matching.
- External OBS/vMix alpha capture remains uncertified. Test the exact show computer, displays, capture devices and downstream path off-air.
Public beta warning
The Mac package is not Apple Developer ID signed or notarized, and the Windows package is not Authenticode signed. Operating systems can show an unknown-developer warning. Download only from this repository and verify SHA256SUMS.txt when needed.
This build passed automated source and packaged checks plus native Mac and Windows package construction. Targeted source and packaged routing checks confirmed two simultaneous acknowledged Program destinations with independent 1920x1080 and 1000x1000 canvases; the first used four-corner mapping and a visible calibration grid. Physical projector geometry, physical UVC capture-card video/audio and the Windows GUI were not certified across venue hardware. These remain evaluation features in this beta.
This is an evaluation beta, not a production-certified release. Keep a fallback rundown/timer and test every live source and destination before doors open.

What changed
- Matching left and right sidebar toggles keep navigation and utility controls explicit; responsive drawers preserve access from 1440x900 down to 900x600.
- Rundown rows now keep names, LT/LIVE/SELECTED badges, schedule and duration readable without overlap.
- Scene dragging and resize behavior are more stable.
- Product screenshots, icon validation and release metadata now match the tested build.
- The runtime is upgraded to Electron 43.1.1.
- Smoke tests now use isolated browser profiles and separate source/packaged artifact directories.
- Packaged media no longer triggers an unnecessary macOS Safe Storage Keychain prompt.
Verified on Apple Silicon Mac
The complete source and packaged suites each passed 320/320 checks on the designated PHL 243V7 display, with no test window on the HP display. The run covered timer/GO state, responsive operator access, multi-output routing, screen content, local network views and the full Lower Third Studio Preview/Take/Hide workflow.
Packaged fixtures also proved PNG/JPG/SVG rendering, MP4 playback and WebM VP8/VP9 alpha compositing inside Electron. This does not certify external OBS or vMix alpha behavior.
Important beta notes
The packages are not Developer ID/notarized or Windows Authenticode signed. macOS Gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen may warn on first launch. Confirm the GitHub source and verify the SHA-256 checksum before overriding a warning.
The Windows packages are built and inspected by the native GitHub Actions runner but have not completed physical Windows QA. Intel Mac is not published. NDI, window capture and external OBS/vMix alpha integration are not certified features.
