Import/Export functionality "overhaul"
K-Compressor v1.1.0
Fairly functional application that allows users to compress images down to a specified number of colors, view some of the colors (k-means centroids) used in the compression, and save the compressed image.
Current features
- Functioning k-means compression
- .png/.jpg support
- Color preview on bottom
- Photo saving functionality (updated to retain aspect ratio and pixel structure of original image while retaining speed of functionality)
- Implemented functionality for non-square photos
- Vectorized compression algorithm (98.9% time reduction)
- Auto-fills extensions when saving compressed photos
- Color preview now shows top 6 colors, relevant percentage amounts, and the remaining amount off to the side
- Full code documentation
Upgrade Steps
- Time complexity is good, space complexity is not (numpy does not like dealing with huge photos tiled out k-dimensionally)
- Small text errors (e.g. "remaining 1 colors")
- Versioning for Mac/Linux?
Aspect ratio limiting

- Aspect ratio limitation to ensure app can function (at least the largest of the height and width of the original, at most 1000 for either)
Upgrade Steps
- Small text errors (e.g. "remaining 1 colors")
- Versioning for Mac/Linux?
v1.0.0

Beta release
0.2.0-beta
Almost entirely functional application that allows users to compress images down to a specified number of colors, save the compressed image, and view some of the colors (k-means centroids) used in the compression.
Current features
- Functioning k-means compression
- .png/.jpg support
- Color preview on bottom
- Photo saving functionality
- Implemented functionality for non-square photos
- Vectorized compression algorithm (98.9% time reduction)
- Auto-fills extensions when saving compressed photos
- Color preview now shows top 6 colors, relevant percentage amounts, and the remaining amount off to the side
Upgrade Steps
- Still some odd functionality errors when photos are too homogeneous in color
- Small text errors (e.g. "remaining 1 colors")
- Versioning for Mac/Linux?
Alpha release
0.1.0-alpha
Mostly functional application that allows users to compress images down to a specified number of colors, save the compressed image, and view some of the colors (k-means centroids) used in the compression.
Current features
- Functioning k-means compression
- .png/.jpg support
- Color preview on bottom
- Photo saving functionality
Upgrade Steps
- Implement functionality for non-square photos
- Vectorize compression algorithm
- Auto fill .jpg/.png when saving photos
- Color preview expands/scrolls when user inputs more than 6 colors
Bug Fixes
- Rudimentary user error catch handling implemented, could be more verbose
