Docker makes single container applications easily manageable: we can keep multiple versions of the same application (with image tags), we can run as many copies of a given application version as we want, and we can easily clone a running application (by committing it to a new image and starting a new container from the new image).
The same is not true for multicontainer applications:
Fig/Docker Compose offer a way to define the structure of a multicontainer application in a declarative way, and to manage and monitor its state from the command line. This is very nice, but there is no way (yet) to manage the creation/monitoring of the application remotely via an API, and to have the configuration and runtime state somehow stored in the engine/server.
