Lag Doctor 0.3.0 — Paper 26.3 beta

Created by William Liu (@starchlorddotcom), with substantial AI assistance.

This compatibility release targets Paper 26.3 and Java 25+. It pins the Paper API to 26.3.build.143-beta and updates the plugin descriptor, Java bytecode, local demo and documentation. Commands, configuration and diagnostic behavior are unchanged.

Install

Stop Paper 26.3, remove any older LagDoctor JAR from plugins/, add LagDoctor-0.3.0.jar, and restart using Java 25+. Keep your existing configuration. Run /ld report after about a minute.

For Paper 1.21.11, keep using LagDoctor 0.2.0. Other Minecraft versions, Spigot and Folia are not supported. Paper 26.3 itself is currently beta; back up and test separately before upgrading a world.

Verified

All 18 automated tests pass. A fresh local Paper 26.3 build 143 server verified plugin loading, tick reports, two-entity scan counts, concurrent-scan rejection, scan cancellation, redacted and location-enabled exports, overlapping-baseline rejection, spike detection, incident recovery and before/after comparisons. The test server was stopped cleanly. Large-server overhead and player-client interactions are not validated.

Source

Download the attached LagDoctor-0.3.0-source.zip for the complete 0.3.0 source, Gradle wrapper, tests, updated documentation and sample reports. The repository currently stores source in release ZIPs; GitHub's automatically generated Source code archives are not the complete 0.3.0 source package.

No telemetry, subscriptions or automatic world changes. Heuristic evidence does not prove lag causes. MIT licensed.

Created by William Liu (@starchlorddotcom).

Lag Doctor helps Minecraft Java server owners investigate lag with evidence, safe next steps, and before/after comparisons.

Features

  • Tick-time monitoring: mean, p95, maximum and slow-tick percentage.
  • Evidence hypotheses from GC, chunk activity and entity counts, with healthy/slow comparisons and explicit uncertainty.
  • Optional scans of loaded entity chunks, including type counts and locations for admins.
  • Incident history, recovery detection and workload-aware baseline comparisons.
  • Offline HTML and text reports with locations omitted by default.
  • Private, repeatable demos for sustained lag and recurring spikes.

Install

Requires Paper 1.21.11 and Java 21+. Download LagDoctor-0.2.0.jar, stop your server, replace any older LagDoctor JAR in plugins/, and restart. Run /ld report after about a minute.

Download LagDoctor-0.2.0-source.zip for the complete source, Gradle build, tests, documentation and example reports. Extract it before following the build instructions.

Validation and limitations

18 automated tests pass. Live Paper testing verified scan counts and locations, scan controls, incident recovery, comparisons and exports. This is an early beta: counts and associations do not prove CPU cost or cause. Large-server overhead and Paper 26.x compatibility have not been validated. HTML content and escaping were tested; visual rendering was not verified.

No account, telemetry, automatic destructive fixes or player punishment. MIT licensed. Minecraft and Paper are separate projects and are not bundled.
