Steno v0.7.1
Linux alpha
- Debian/Ubuntu packages and an AppImage bring microphone and system-audio recording to Linux. System audio requires PipeWire. Without it, recording uses the microphone only.
- Linux packages are unsigned and do not update automatically. Install new versions manually.
- The bundled Ollama runs CPU-only summarisation, as in the Windows alpha.
- AppImage users must install
libportaudio2separately. - For GPU-accelerated summaries, install and run Ollama separately with a supported GPU and driver. Then open Settings > AI > Private Server, enter
http://127.0.0.1:11434, and choose a model available on that server. - Channel labels distinguish you from other participants. Acoustic multi-speaker identification remains macOS-only.
Fixes and improvements
- Repeated clicks on the folder-creation button no longer create duplicate sidebar folders, and an error is shown when a folder cannot be created. (#536)
- Parakeet model downloads now show actual progress and distinguish downloading from model preparation. (#536)
- On Windows and Linux, the available live transcript is used when ONNX batch transcription successfully reads less than half of the recording. (#471)
- A recording that fails to start no longer leaves a stuck "Recording" entry in the meetings list. (#529)
- Weekday and month names now match the English interface. Times keep the system's 12/24-hour clock preference. (#530)
Website
- The website and README now use the StenoAI name, and the Government & Defence pages have been expanded. (#525, #535)
