ClipGauge 0.8.5

Choose a tag to compare

@stevencombs stevencombs released this 22 Oct 20:51
  • The model runs while ClipGauge is open. At launch, when the project drive mounts, after sleep and every minute, ClipGauge makes sure Ollama is running: it starts the project's Ollama LaunchAgent if there is one, otherwise ollama serve with the project's models folder. Then it loads the chat model and keeps it loaded, and loads it again if it gets pushed out of memory, so the first answer starts right away.
  • And unloads when it closes. Quit (⌘Q, the popover or the menu) unloads the models ClipGauge loaded. An Ollama server ClipGauge started itself is stopped. A LaunchAgent server keeps running with no model loaded. A clip run still carries on after Quit, as before, with its model.
  • Status in the chat header: Starting Ollama… / Loading model… / Ready, or paused while clips process. This shows in the popover and the main window.
  • Clear errors with Retry: "Ollama isn't answering" (server) and "no chat model installed" (model) are now separate messages. Retry starts the server. It also restarts a server that runs but can't see the project's models, for example after brew upgrade replaced the Ollama binary it was started from.
  • Finds the model by name: another tag of the same model counts, and ClipGauge falls back to any installed vision or chat model instead of failing.
  • New setting: Settings › General › Models on this Mac › Keep model loaded while ClipGauge is open. It's on by default and set per Mac. When it's off, the model loads on the first question and unloads after a few idle minutes.

Install or update: brew install --cask stevencombs/tap/clipgauge / brew upgrade --cask clipgauge.

Universal (Apple silicon + Intel). The app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized (unsigned): right-click > Open on first launch. Verify with the .sha256 file.

ClipGauge 0.8.4

Choose a tag to compare

@stevencombs stevencombs released this 22 Oct 01:37
  • Ask the Model in the first window. A menu bar click (or ⌃⌥C) opens the popover with Ask the Model right at the top: type and press Return. It's the same conversation as the main window's chat panel; the expand button or ⇧⌘A continues there with the model picker, attachments and Save. The chevron collapses it to one line. It still pauses while clips are processing.
  • The main window opens at launch with the chat panel beside the queue and the cursor in the message box. Opening ClipGauge again from Finder, Spotlight or Launchpad brings the window back.
  • Hidden chat is reset once: if the chat panel was hidden in an earlier version, 0.8.4 shows it again on first launch.
  • Homebrew-aware updates: a copy installed with brew install --cask stevencombs/tap/clipgauge checks the latest GitHub release and shows brew upgrade --cask clipgauge (with Copy) instead of the rebuild command.
  • No stale copies: an older ClipGauge started from another folder opens the newer one in /Applications and quits.

ClipGauge 0.8.3

Choose a tag to compare

@stevencombs stevencombs released this 21 Oct 02:41
  • Ask the Model is back in the main window. It's a chat panel beside the queue with the message box, a model picker and the conversation. It's visible by default and collapses with the sidebar button at its top. ⇧⌘A (or ⌘K from Tools) opens it and puts the cursor in the message box, and the ✨ Ask button shows or hides it. It still pauses while clips are processing, and the panel says so. Tools › Ask the Model in a Separate Window keeps the old window.
  • Choose your models per Mac: Settings › General › Models on this Mac lets you pick the vision model (any installed Ollama model) and the Whisper speech model (any model in models/whisper), or leave both on Automatic (RAM tier). The choice is saved on that Mac only and never synced. A model that isn't installed falls back to the tier, and Setup shows the models actually in use.
  • Any drive: transcript bundles and Save transcript next to clips now work for folders on the internal disk, another external drive or a network share, not only the drive that holds the project folder. Held folders, DaVinci Resolve's own folders and Cloud-synced projects are still never written into.
  • Messages now say Project drive "" not connected instead of naming one specific drive.

Universal (Apple silicon + Intel). The app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized (unsigned): right-click > Open on first launch. Verify with the .sha256 file.

ClipGauge 0.8.2

@stevencombs stevencombs released this 13 Oct 00:23
  • Built-in preview and sample data now use generic example projects (such as "Video Project") and generic folder paths (such as Videos/Video Project) instead of real place names. No change to how ClipGauge works.

Universal (Apple silicon + Intel). The app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized (unsigned): right-click > Open on first launch. Verify with the .sha256 file.

@stevencombs stevencombs released this 12 Oct 23:56
  • After each queue project finishes (not in dry runs), its transcript bundle is saved into the folder it processed as _transcripts.json and .md (copy-to-inbox projects: inbox//). Existing files are never overwritten (-2, -3 … added); the exports/ copy is kept.
  • New Settings › Queue toggle: Save transcript next to clips (on by default). Skipped while DaVinci Resolve is open and for held/protected folders; clips are never touched.
  • Fix: per-project queue progress now reads the clip count from status.json (it stayed empty in 0.8.0).

The app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized (unsigned): right-click > Open on first launch. Verify with the .sha256 file.

@stevencombs stevencombs released this 12 Oct 06:44

Multi-project queue (reorder/pause/skip, resume after stop/quit/sleep, one undo batch per project), two-view Queue/Results window with Tools menu, minimal popover, per-project transcription with transcript search and bundles. Legacy web UI removed.

The app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized (unsigned): right-click > Open on first launch. Verify with the .sha256 file.

ClipGauge 0.7.6

Choose a tag to compare

@stevencombs stevencombs released this 12 Oct 06:39

ClipGauge 0.7.6: long in-place runs now finish in one go.

  • Progress is saved after every clip (logs/inplace-run.json). After a Stop, crash, sleep or quit, a Resume banner picks up where the run stopped, and finished clips are skipped.
  • If a folder is moved or renamed during a run, its clips are found again by name and size instead of every remaining clip failing.
  • Clips that already have a generated-looking name (including ones edited by hand) aren't processed twice.

The app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. On first launch, right-click it and choose Open. Check the SHA-256 against the .sha256 file.

ClipGauge 0.7.5

Choose a tag to compare

@stevencombs stevencombs released this 11 Oct 03:04

What's new in 0.7.5

  • Files always keep their original dates. Copy into Inbox, rename, move into a folder, Sort into Projects, and every undo now keep both the modified and created dates. Afterwards each date is checked, and any date that still changed is reported, never silently ignored.
  • No more "Jan 1, 1980" dates. Some phone-to-Mac transfers produce files with no date at all. An exFAT drive shows those as Jan 1, 1980 12:00 AM. ClipGauge no longer copies an empty date. It sets the capture time instead, taken from the camera, phone or screenshot file name, the video's creation time, or the photo's EXIF date.
  • Names never use a missing date, so no more 19800101_… file names.
  • 6 new selftests (139 in total).

ClipGauge 0.7.4

@stevencombs stevencombs released this 09 Oct 20:58

What's new in 0.7.4

  • The Add Clips list scrolls. Only the list scrolls, so Choose…, Clear, Start Over and Process are always on screen. Clear and Start Over are always visible.
  • Held folders show one row. If you drop clips from a folder on hold (hold_sources in config/project-sort.json), you now see one summary row, "“…” is on hold — remove it from hold in Settings or config to process", instead of one red row for each clip. Nothing in that folder is touched.
  • The Process button always says why. A status line next to it shows "Ready", "Checking…", "Nothing to process: … is on hold", "Project folder isn't available" and so on.
  • No more endless spinner. If the engine doesn't answer for an item, that item becomes an error row.
  • Refused and error items are dropped when the window closes or reopens. The queue is kept in memory only and never comes back after a relaunch.

ClipGauge 0.7.3

Choose a tag to compare

@stevencombs stevencombs released this 09 Oct 07:20

ClipGauge is a local AI video clip renamer in the macOS menu bar. It describes each clip with a local vision model (Ollama), transcribes speech with whisper.cpp, and renames clips to {date}_{project}_{subject}_{type}. Everything runs on your Mac.

This is the first public release. It includes everything from 0.7.2 (which was tagged but not released).

What's new

  • Support ClipGauge · Tip via PayPal. A blue button in Settings › About (under the YouTube button), plus Support ClipGauge… in the dropdown footer and the app menu. Each one just opens paypal.me/stevencombs in your browser.
  • Settings and About scroll. The Settings window has a fixed height (680 pt, capped to your screen), and each tab scrolls. The About page is shorter and closer to GrokGauge's layout.
