Performance release

Version 1.0.3 reduces deletion latency while preserving the four-pass overwrite pipeline and all target-safety guards.

Changes

  • Consolidates Windows reparse, attribute, exclusive-lock, and NTFS alternate data stream checks into one preflight operation
  • Uses 4 MiB chunks for regular-file overwrite passes to reduce write-call overhead
  • Reuses the CSPRNG buffer instead of allocating a new buffer for every chunk
  • Preserves Extreme mode's original 1 MiB chunks and 256 MiB temporary-file limit
  • Adds regression coverage proving locked files are rejected without deletion
  • Updates the README and accessible User Guide for v1.0.3

A local alternating A/B benchmark with a 64 MiB file improved from 3.38 seconds to 2.33 seconds on average (about 31%). Actual performance depends on the drive and Windows environment.

Verification

  • 8 unit tests passed
  • Electron IPC, UI, and real deletion smoke test passed
  • Portable package smoke test passed

Deletion is permanent. This remains best-effort file shredding, not a universal forensic-erasure guarantee. SSD wear levelling, TRIM, snapshots, backups, and external copies can retain data outside the file addressed by the app.
