G-code Explorer v2.0.0

@stmoha stmoha released this 28 Aug 00:58

G-code Explorer 2.0

🧭 Renamed: G-code & grblHAL Reference → G-code Explorer

The plugin now does more than reference lookups, so the name grew with it. Same plugin id — existing installs update normally and keep their settings.

✨ New: Explorer tab (G-code Navigator, merged)

The standalone G-code Navigator plugin now lives inside G-code Explorer as the Explorer tab:

  • Interactive 2D toolpath map of the loaded job — snap to G-code lines graphically and jog the machine to them with safe-Z handling
  • Rubber-band contour tracing to outline the cut area before committing
  • 4th-axis unwrap to visualize rotary jobs flat
  • Opens via Tools → G-code Explorer; the map lives on the Explorer tab
  • Navigator state (traced contours, analysis) persists while you switch to other tabs in the same dialog
2026-08-27_17h56_48 **If you had the standalone G-code Navigator installed, uninstall it** — everything is in here now, and two copies means two Tools-menu entries.

🔧 Under the hood

  • The Explorer pane loads lazily: terminal ?keyword lookups don't pay its startup cost
  • Tabs renamed: G-code (was Explain a line) and Explorer (the merged Navigator) — the tab row now reads Reference · G-code · Explorer · NC Manual · Settings
  • G-code and Explorer tabs share the wide 1800px layout; NC Manual keeps its 1260px reading width
  • Jump between them per line: the ⌖ Explorer button on any explained line shows it on the Explorer map; G-code↗ next to the Explorer's line input goes the other way
  • Explorer: Z-filter slider to hide high-Z travel moves, Z (with inferred-Z notes) in line analysis, creep marker survives zooming, compact 2×2 action buttons, single-scrollbar layout with the jog cluster pinned to the map's bottom edge

What's Changed

✨ Explain a line — rebuilt around the loaded file

  • Split view: the G-code on the left, word-by-word G-Code Definitions on the right, each scrolling independently
  • Source toggle — Loaded file | Paste code: browse the program currently loaded in ncSender, or paste any G-code and get the identical interface; pasted blocks are explained the moment you paste
  • No more 20,000-line limit — the file list renders in chunks and loads more as you scroll, so files of any length can be browsed to the end; an end ↓ link jumps straight to the last line
  • Find: search box with match counter ("1 of 171"), Enter / Shift+Enter stepping (wraps around), each match selected and explained as you step
  • Line jump: "Loaded file [255-275] of 16828 lines" — type a line number or range and press Enter to jump; stays in sync with any selection
  • Every explanation block shows its file line number, and clicking a block highlights and scrolls to that line for easy orientation in long selections
  • Terminal ??<line> explanations open in Paste mode — numbered and browsable

✨ ncSender plugin commands documented

  • New Plugin codes entries for the console commands other ncSender plugins provide, sourced from each plugin's repository:
    • $TLS — tool length setter probe cycle (Rapid Change ATC / Manual Tool Changer / Pneumatic ATC)
    • $SLOT<n> — rapid to magazine slot n (Rapid Change ATC); $SLOT1, $slot03 etc. all resolve
    • $POCKET1 — rapid to the manual tool-change pocket (Manual Tool Changer)
    • $ADB_RETRACT / $ADB_EXPAND — dust boot control (AutoDustboot)
  • $H documentation notes the tool-changer plugins' optional TLS-after-home expansion
  • ?slot, ?pocket, ?dust boot, ??$SLOT3, ??$TLS etc. all work in the Console; each entry notes which plugin must be installed

✨ G-code validity checking

  • Explanations now flag text that is not valid G-code: a per-line warning banner ("This line does not appear to be G-code" / "Parts of this line are not valid G-code") with the unrecognized fragments marked in red
  • grblHAL macro syntax (o-words, #<variables>, [expressions], IF/WHILE/EQ...) is recognized as valid, so pasted macro expansions don't false-positive

🔧 Layout

  • Per-tab sizing on wide screens: Explain a line stretches up to 1800px so long G-code lines aren't clipped; NC Manual caps at 1260px (the manual's Material-for-MkDocs layout is fully rendered at that width — anything more is dead margin); Reference keeps its two-row filter width
  • Draggable divider between the G-code pane and G-Code Definitions — grab it to rebalance (20–78%); long definition lines wrap instead of clipping, and long G-code lines ellipsize instead of stretching the pane

What's Changed

  • Fix: declare the index.js entry so the plugin loads on v1/pro-v1 platforms

✨ Initial Public Release

  • Inline G-code, M-code and grblHAL settings documentation inside ncSender
  • Terminal shortcuts: ?keyword looks up docs, ??G1 X10 F500 explains a line word by word, ?? alone opens the full reference
  • 360+ entries: grblHAL core dialect, canned cycles, probing, G65 macros, plugin M-codes, and all 251 numbered $ settings through $772 (SLB/SLB-EXT firmware 20260525 aware, with legacy 5.0.x numbering notes)
  • Live controller cross-check: entries are flagged "not on this controller" when your firmware build doesn't include them, and show the current value when it does
  • Built-in browser for the official ncSender manual
  • Category color-keys, theme-aware light/dark palettes, responsive two-row filter layout

✨ Explain from the loaded file

  • The Explain a line tab shows the currently loaded G-code file with line numbers — click a line to explain it word by word, Shift+click for a range
  • Line jump control in the file header: "Loaded file [255-275] of 16828 lines" — type a line number or range and press Enter to jump there
  • The explanation pane is titled G-Code Definitions; every explained block shows its file line number, and clicking a block highlights and scrolls to that line in the file for easy orientation in long selections
  • Loaded filename with a reload link; paste-in fallback when no file is loaded

🎨 Syntax coloring matching ncSender's G-Code Preview

  • Same rules and palette as the built-in preview, including colored chained words (X0.5Y0.2 colors both)
  • Explanation tables color each token (G/M/T/S/F/X/Y/Z/axis words) to match

🔧 Other

  • File pane and explanation pane now scroll independently — the breakdown stays on screen while you scroll the G-code
  • Find in file: search box above the file with match counter ("1 of 171"), next/previous (Enter / Shift+Enter), and clear — each match is selected and explained as you step through
  • Manual tab renamed to NC Manual
  • Terminal lookups now always list every match (the max-results setting is removed)
